LocationSo the review title is pretty lame but for us it was a good location for what we planned on doing. We went to tour the iron range on a day trip. We had a two bedroom co do. The lodge is typical of a northwoods lodge., it. Is. Very cLean, nice bar and restaurant. It was July and we took our cooler our to the common area deck and watched the birds and sunset for two lovely happy hours after long days. Everyone was friendly. The price point was steep for Not having its own private deck or balcony...Ive stayed in 3 Airbnb since MAy in 3 other states and this One costs more then all of the others combined. We booked it for convenience. Id stay there again. Lovely quiet clean but nothing exceptional for the price.

The Legends golf course at Giants RidgePlayed the course twice on a rainy cool day. Still enjoyed it it a lot. Took advantage of the replay rate on second round, this is cheaper than the twilight rate. Was surprise the full fall rate was not reduced from their summer rate, just under $100 US. Bring your own GPS or Rangefinder as cart do not provide yardage. If it is wet expect cart path only. Tee boxes are mostly raised so your legs get a workout as there are no stairs to use. Staff are friendly and in September pace of play was around 4 hours. Played my Replay rate alone and did so in 3 hours. Very good driving range areas included, as is chipping area. the chipping area doubles as putting green so that was a bit unexpected and didnt give a good sense of actual greens speed. FYI, they do allow singles to make bookings, which is nice.

Hmmmmm, perhaps just limited experience due to covid ??Im sure the lodge can be hopping, but on 7/6 thru 7/8 it was lonely with very limited services. Perhaps it was COVID? However they said they were packed on the 4th of July weekend. With the hotel running with maybe 20% occupancy, the services were showing that way - the Bar and restaurants were closed but for the weekend. The temperature in the room was fixed - not able to go below 74 or 75 degrees- certainly the room wasnt cleaned or made up either day. The rental services for bikes and other things to do were hard to find at the chalet building and closed early so I guess hiking was our only option (which was fine, as there was not traffic on the bike path anyway). The Legends golf course was excellent with food and drinks available at the 1st and 10th tees - no on course service carts. We drove to the Quarry restaurant- Wacootah Grill 3 miles away dinner 1 night - very nice food and great service. Also Vis Pizza and TNT bar was a great option for pizza (downtown Biwabik) It appeared the spa at the hotel was open (if you make a reservation) as they give you a $5 coupon - however we called at 4:30 pm and it rang and rang no answer or voice mail. The 4 or 5 pieces of equipment in the exercise room all worked as you would hope. If you want to use a Kayak or canoe, they are for the Villas guests and not the Lodge guests- as they are not connected. I guess I will ask more questions next time. The place seemed rustic and clean and the staff seemed nice however- considering it was a ghost town, the front desk didnt add much from a guidance standpoint on things to do. The golf experience is why this gets a 2 otherwise it would be a 1 as we really had hoped for more- as we thought we were paying for more than a room.

Weekend getawayI took my teenage son with me this time for hiking and mountain biking. Both were right there by the lodge. It's dog friendly too so that is a bonus if we can bring the dog. We were in a 2 bedroom which gave both my son and I space to do our own thing. The rooms are comfortable and clean. There is a small kitchen for those wanting to do some of their own cooking. The teenager said he had fun so that was a bonus too! Would definitely stay here again.
