Very hard to findWe could not find this hotel and taxi drivers at victory monument would not take us as it was too close, but they would not give us directions either. We found it after many wrong turns and bad directions of people sending us the wrong way. When we arrived we could not find reception as there is not a sign for it(3rd floor). They say there is a free shuttle service but that only takes you to the main road and its a long walk up the main road with no pavement to victory monument. It,s a nightmare of a location, I would not go back.

Laurel suites revisited, some little things have changed, for good mostlyI was on last june, july again for 9 days here and some things have changed. There is a new manager, but I think owners are the same. The most important thing is that they must have made some kind of arrangement with some university, as they have now quite a lot of universitary students as residens. This changes some things from my last visit: 1. There are less avalaible rooms to choose, fortuntately one of the cleaners remembered us and she cleaned a good room for us while we ate some delicious food in the restaurant by the pool. 2. Prices in the restaurant menu has cut 50%, you can order anything for less than 50 bahts per dish, great. Also the restaurant now is open from 10 to 14 and from 16 to 20, at those hours you can order any dish in the menu. Great 3. From monday to friday, early in the morning students get breakfast in the restaurant until 10.00 so if you are at the pool you see them preparing their meals, but they don't disturb at all, they are quite and respectful and eat their meal inside the restaurant. 4. Tuk tuk service to the main road seems to be not working anymore, I don't know if this a new policy or maybe the driver was angry with the management, as he did not gave as nor one ride ... bad thing ... Staff is friendly, kind, and not at all disturbing, we fell at home here really. You should think that a hotel full of students is not the right place to stay quiet, well I assure you silence and peace was as present as always here, students are so quiet you cannot imagine the hotel is full of them, and they do not use the swimming pool never, I guess they cannot do it as you cannot have their breakfast either, so apart from watching them having brekfast and some times sharing the lifter with them you won't notice they are hosts ... quite difficult in any western country I can think of ... Another advantage is that the price of the washing machines is now only 20 bahts. So this place is still a great place to stay in bangkok, we made no reservation, just walked into the lobby and made it then. They keep with the stupid prices if you don't book full weeks, we paid 5500 bahts por 7 days and afterwards 2 more days for 1500 baht a day ... same service, but very different price ... stupid, this should be changed for sure, you feel silly paying double, even it is still good price for the big rooms you get. The swimming pool is fully sunny from dawn untill 13.00, then shades remains for the rest of the day. Another thing that should be changed is pillows, they are a little bit on the hard side, uncomfortable if you are used to soft ones, so take this into account, and don't forget to bring your kitchenware if you plan to eat something in the room as there is none, although this is a minor problem now with the restaurant schedule and prices.

Convenient & QuietNot far from Victory Monument and main suburban and airport train station, this clean and basic apartment hotel is extremely quiet despite being in the heart of busy Bangkok. A microwave and fridge is useful, but in Bangkok food is so reasonable and close at hand, you just eat out. There is airconditioning, excellent wifi, a swimming pool, and a small restaurant. This is comfortable, clean, no-frills accomodation at a good price.

more like an appartmentIt gets microwave oven and a balcony. The location is not bad cos it is close to central world. It is easy to catch a taxi outside the hotel. We rather take taxi than train for four people like us as it is cheaper. However, the shower is not hot enough.

No Thrills, Low BillsNothing flashy about The Laurel, but it's clean, quiet and reasonably central. Only 400m from Victory Monument and the Victory Monument BRT station, you can get most places in Bangkok. Not swanky an area, there is a 7Eleven in the next street, and plenty of good quality local eateries, where food and drinks are cheap. The Hotel has it's own pool, water machine (1Baht per litre - take your own bottle), breakfast room. The rooms are tiled, air-conditioned, have a small balcony, that looks over the neighbourhood, and a small fridge. It is relatively quiet, given it is a short distance from motorways and busy arterial roads, but you'll love the call of 'the local minah' bird. The owner is very friendly and has good English, the staff are helpful but sometimes language cab be a 'learning experience'. The neighbourhood is delightful - just watch out for motor cycles!
