  Simply FAB U LOUS

  Just back from 3 nights at Lake Country House. As always we had a super time. We were beautifully looked after by Luke and his team. Outstanding service from everyone but especially Megan & Terry . The food was incredible, absolutely divine, the best in all the times we have stayed. The labradors had ball too . We all hope to head back very soon. THANK YOU Lake Country House

  Autumn Break in Mid Wales after the firebreak

  Lovely welcoming hotel ideal place to stay for an autumn break in Mid Wales. We decided to give the hotel a try after reading the reviews. My wife and I love good food and comfortable surroundings and The Lake turned out to tick all of the boxes. We loved the cosy ambience welcoming staff and log fires. The room was very comfortable and light with a nice bathroom. Everything was clean and the room was serviced daily which during Covid is not always the case in some hotels we have stayed in. The location was also ideal when we were there in mid November the roads were very quiet and the Elan valley was only a short distance away. It was also nice to walk by the lake and the river in the autumn sun. The hot tub and swimming pool were also a bonus. We had dinner on the first night and it was excellent. We both had venison which was one of the best we have had anywhere. Unfortunately on the Friday night the service and standard was not quite as good which was a shame. But saying that we would definitely return.

  Short Walking Holiday

  There was something about this place which I really enjoyed but it is difficult to put into words. I would definitely return for another stay when hopefully covid restrictions will have been lifted. It was homely, comfortable and relaxing and you were made to feel welcome by all the staff. I particularly enjoyed the Welsh Tea by the log fire in the lounge on our return from the walks we had done - you couldn't ask for anything more. The hotel owner would often be around at this time making sure there was a full supply of logs for the fire but never too busy to stop for a friendly chat and to discreetly ask if you were being served. We stayed in the Lodge which is separate from the main hotel building and has ground floor rooms which are easily accessible and great if returning from walks with muddy boots. We stayed on half-board and whilst the food and wine I did not consider to be top notch - fine dining might be somewhat of an exaggeration - it was definitely of good quality and an acceptable standard. Again service was not top notch - food orders could get mixed - but the young staff seem to do their best and were friendly and enthusiastic under somewhat difficult circumstances given the covid restrictions. The grounds of the hotel were magnificent and well kept and a second visit would be worthwhile just to see them again. The hotel is situated in a very remote location and unless on a walking holiday, a car is probably essential. If walking, the local post office sells a booklet of walks in the area which I found very useful. I did not complete them all and this is one of many reasons why I would like to return to this hotel one day.

  Perfection

  If I could only use one word to review this hotel then it would be perfection. We visited for the first time a few months ago to try their Sunday lunch and was so impressed that we booked two nights in the Master Suite for my birthday. Our stay was flawless, everything was just right. The staff are attentive and professional, always there to help and provide a high standard of service. We could not work out how to turn down the radiator and someone came up straight away to assist. The lounge area is delightful, its like being in a stately home. Its warm and relaxing and we enjoyed spending time by the log burner or by the windows overlooking the gardens with coffee and newspapers. Our room was luxurious, with a massive four poster bed, smart TV and a jacuzzi bath. The bed was very comfortable, with good quality bedding. The room was clean and fresh and I loved the toiletries that were provided, we ended up buying some hand-wash to take home. It was fun enjoying a jacuzzi bath whilst watching Netflix. The estate is well kept and we had a very enjoyable walk around the grounds. Even though its November it was still a very beautiful place to walk and was kept tidy. The food is exceptional and the restaurant is my new favourite place to eat in Wales. The dishes are imaginative and luxurious. The pastries and sources were particularly magnificent. The quality of ingredients is very high and it represents good value for what you get. The service is exceptional, very attentive and professional. I want to go back and try their afternoon tea as the baked goods that I had were excellent. They had a good choice at breakfast and again the food was of a high quality. We booked to use the pool and outdoor hot tub. You book in 30 minute slots and share the pool with one other couple but have the hot tub to yourself. Its a good size pool and the temperature is just right (sometimes I find pools to be too cold). I really enjoyed the hot tub, its on a balcony outside so you can lay back and watch birds of pray circling above you. They have a steam room and sauna but its out of use due to COVID I also booked a full body massage, which was very relaxing. I liked the fact that you are given a form to notify them of how firm you want the massage and weather you want silence or conversation. I cant recommend this hotel, spa and restaurant highly enough, we had a perfect stay and I cant wait to go back

  Fabulous short break

  My wife and I have just had a 2 night spa and fishing break here, and it was fabulous! Wonderful room and hospitality, the staff could not have been more helpful, and the food was amazing! My wife enjoyed the spa treatments and we both had a very leisurely half hour swim, with nobody else in due to the COVID-19 restrictions. The fishing in the lake was trying, as it is somewhat clogged with underwater growth, but fish could be seen moving, although not towards what I was offering for dinner. The river was too high and fast to fish, but as I didnt venture beyond the hotel grounds, I couldnt say that there werent other parts of the hotels beat with easier access to slower water. All in all, an extremely pleasant place to spend a few days - we shall be back!
