    Dangerous conditions

I have stayed here a few times and in general have appreciated the location and value. However, the interaction with management when bringing to their attention a danger to guests was very disappointing. A random, rusted pipe sticking out of the bark covered picnic area did not seem an issue since it wasnt on a guest path. On the contrary, there isnt any light on the area and could really hurt someone. Disregarding this showed no concern for the guests safety. Stay safe, all!

    Wonderful

Super friendly service! Comfy cozy beds! Clean facility! Awesome location! Great bar/restaurant attached! Pool! Walking distance to a Michelin Star restaurant, the Glen Ellen Star, walking distance to Jack London Park, and Benziger Winery. Im so surprised by the not so great reviews. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Lovely place and people.

Ridiculous price ($275/night) for poorly maintained "Motor Lodge" accommodations

While the location may be enticing if you want to stay in Glen Ellen, adding the word "Motor" between Jack London and Lodge, would go a long way to more accurately communicating what you will be receiving here. Bottom line, is this property is ridiculously overpriced for basic accommodations, few amenities and less than welcoming service. On arrival, you'll notice that rooms open directly to parking lot or the walkway balcony with the only window facing the parking lot/walkway - so much for privacy.... We were on the 2nd floor and the Door/Frame to our unit was a bit warped, requiring a very strong pull to ensure it actually latched when we left the room. I am sure the units on either side could hear/feel it when we tried to close our door. There is no in-room safe or a way to deadbolt the door when leaving. This combined with the use of traditional metal keys made me wonder if it would be smart to leave valuables in the room. There is no closest - just a rack on the wall with about 8 hangers A minor but constant irritant is that the location of the light switches make no sense - the one for the vanity being furthest from the vanity and actually having a sign on it to make sure you know what it is for. While the switches for the bathroom lights are outside the bathroom on the hinge side of the door - you guessed it right above the vanity. In the bathroom you'll find a classic 5' tub/shower combo with a plastic shower curtain on a straight curtain bar. The water control is difficult to engage and very difficult to regulate - I suspect this is in part due to the $2 plastic low-flow shower head which means that it takes a long time before a change at the knob registers as a change in water temp. The ice bucket echos the thin, single wall cube design most commonly found in a hospital room. There are multiple signs pointing to the way to the ice machine, which functioned and was full of ice, but I couldn't help but notice that the scoop in the machine had several black mildew stains...oh well.. A continental breakfast is served in a separate building, and after experiencing the guest room, expectations for breakfast were admittedly low - let's just say these expectations were met. On the positive side, there is a French bakery across the street that has incredible pastries - particularly the bite sized chocolate soufflé ... While one might forgive dated accommodations if staff are friendly and accommodating - That is not the situation here. The guy who checked us in handed us a set of house rules along with our key. My wife thought he seemed a bit creepy, and I thought he seemed a bit bitter. In our brief interaction we learned that he doesn't seem to appreciate guests with kids (fortunately we didn't have any with us). For the bike riders reading this review - you might be interested in knowing that one of those house rules is no bicycles in the room. I can't for the life of me understand this one as the room furnishings / carpet are not particularly nice and the alternative of leaving an expensive bike on a rack outside seems to invite mischief - like our kids, our bikes were left at home so this didn't directly impact us... While there are other shortcomings I could point out, just consider yourself fairly warned - as recent reviewer Martin G summed up "It was a dump"

    1 night at the Lodge

We stayed at the Jack London Lodge for one night after visiting family in Sonoma County. I found the Jack London Lodge here on Trip Advisor, and we were pleased with everything. The room was large, the bed was very comfortable, there was a bathtub/shower in the bathroom, and it was so quiet! The gentleman at the front desk was very helpful and friendly. I have already recommended the Lodge to family members, and we would certainly stay there again.
