Historic and wonderfulWe stayed in the chase room in the yellow building right next to the building that you register in. The people were so accommodating for a last minute booking. They told us about things to do had turn down service the the next day weather forecast, chocolates, soda, water and woke up the next day with a newspaper hanging from the door. the place was situated off the beaten path that it was very quiet at night. The only thing I'd wished that they offered was a complimentary Breakfast of some sort. you could walk to the Krazy Kat next door which we heard was very nice but a little bit on the expensive side for breakfast.

Where are the owners? You have serious issues hereThe prices are outrageous for dated "inn" rooms (which are external), the spa service was ridiculously poor, and the restaurant was very sub-standard in service and so-so for food. I guess you're fooling the pick up driving, older Boomers with NRA stickers on their vehicles. Some staff have been nice but in that "I'm powerless" way that indicates that leadership is seriously lacking.

The right thingIt's easy to do the right thing when it doesn't cost anything to do it. But as we've discovered during this weird time of isolation and distancing, some businesses seem reluctant to do the right thing if it comes at their own expense. Months before Covid 19 changed the world, we reserved two suites at The Inn at Montchanin Village so that we could celebrate my wife's birthday with our daughter, who lives nearby. When we made the reservations, we hardly glanced at the confirmation page and we didn't notice that the bookings were final, that the Inn did not accept cancellations and did not offer refunds. Considering the Inn's location and the under-handed way in which some people make reservations without intending to fulfill their side of the deal, this policy seems understandable. When the governments of Canada and the U.S. closed the border between our countries, I notified the Inn that we would have to abandon our planned visit. I expected the Inn to abide by its policy and say, "Tough bananas." Instead, the Inn reversed the charges on my credit card with no fee, no obligations and no questions asked. We have no doubt that this current health crisis will end. When it does, we will once again visit our daughter in Pennsylvania, probably more than once. And each time we do, we will make reservations to stay at the Inn at Montchanin. It's the least we can do to demonstrate our gratitude to the Inn and its management for doing the right thing.

Total F Minus - They Couldn't Have Cared LessHow was the Inn at Monchanin? I couldn't tell you. Despite having made a reservation weeks before, and the inn requesting confirmation of our Saturday night stay the prior Tuesday (I literally replied the minute their email came in) I received a non-apologetical and nothing but perfunctory phone call on Friday at 3:30pm that the inn would not honor our reservation. The woman who called me could have cared less but did offer to put us up at a Best Western hotel at their expense. On such short notice, we from New Jersey and our friends from Maryland, had no chance to book lodgings to our liking and took "the offer we couldn't refuse". Upon checking in to the Best Western we learned that the Inn routinely overbooks and sends displaced guests there. In reading the other negative reviews on Trip Advisor (which I wish we had done before booking here), it would strike me you'd be better off doing business with any other inn, B&B or hotel in the area than you would with this one. Total F- experience.

What a find! The inn is wonderful. Fabulous rooms with fireplaces and lovely bathrooms. We will definitely be back soon! The restaurant associated w the inn is excellent, Crazy Cat. No need to venture elsewhere which makes this even more relaxing!
