What a disappointmentUpon arriving at Solitudes charming village after a week in an Airbnb in Sandy and skiing Alta, my wife and I thought, maybe we did this wrong and should have spent the week at Solitude. 18 hours at the Inn at Solitude quickly disabused us of that notion. The service at Solitude could not have been more disappointing. We arrived around 5 and asked the front desk for dinner suggestions. St Bernardus (in the hotel) and Honeycomb Grill were their two recommendations, and they assured us we would not need a recommendation. After a quick change, we went to the Honeycomb Grill, where they apologized but told us they were full. No problem, we will hit the back up plan, the buffet at St Bernardus. The hostess at St Bernardus said we could get a table in 5 minutes, they just needed to set up a table. We were invited to sit by the fire and wait. 15 minutes in, kids are starting to bounce off the walls and there is no sign of movement. Asking the hostess when our table will be ready, she apologizes but says they cant seat us for another 30 minutes. The restaurant is half empty but we have reservations. Also, we dont have enough food for everyone at the buffet. Never mind the untouched buffet table. After speaking to the manager, we get a table 10 minutes later (and of course none of their other reservations ever arrive). After dinner, we ask if there is ask if there is internet to stream a movie for our 5 year old. We wish is the answer, but try using the town internet service. For $350/night in 2019, youd think they might find a connection. How about a chess set? Sadly the game collection is a mix of half completed sets. The final moment came on our departure. With a 1 year old, we asked front desk agent Ally for a noon departure so he could take a nap. Wed love to help, but you have to be out at 1030 sharp. Of course, at 1030 when we call for the bellman, its a 30 minute delay and when we leave at 11, there is no sign of a maid looking to turn the room. While we didnt come in expecting the Amangiri or the Four Seasons, it didnt seem too much to ask for accurate information, basic connectivity, or a little service from an upscale ski resort. Unfortunately, this was too much to ask for from this collection of twenty-something ski bums.

Outstanding AssociatesMy wife and I just recently stayed at the Inn. What an enjoyable experience. Great service, Great People. Your associate Michelle, was the best to make sure things were perfect. The room, the view, the service, and the food. Thanks again

Great locationIt's right up against the slopes. I have ground floor room 5108 and looked out onto ski run and lift. The ceilings are tall, maybe 14' which gives the room a very nice feel. Staff was really nice. Furniture in the room was nice. Rooms were large. Windows were maybe 12' tall and wide sliding door that gave a lot of light. I take off from perfect 5 score because the rooms are a bit worn for the price and location. The carpet at the bathroom had worn through to the tacks. Although very accommodating, the rooms weren't cleaned until 4PM. The room needs a bit of an up, not much, to just make you feel they have done something in 20 years. steve

Great Location but don't have high expectationsWe stayed here as a family of three. We are locals but decided to stay the night before in order to try to avoid the terrible traffic going up the canyon on a powder day. It was on a promotional weekend (early ski season) so the rate was significantly lower then during peak season. So, for the price I don't want to complain too much but I wouldn't pay peak season pricing for the following reasons: The room was average, two queen beds, small fridge, coffee maker, two chairs, and plenty of ski hooks for 4 people. What it lacked was a in room microwave, ice machine was only on the first floor and got stick multiple times (ice wouldn't come out so you had to hold the button down for a while, then it would dump more ice then what the bucket could hold and fall onto the floor), parking was not covered and you had to "valet", which means they drive to you and load your belongings into a side by side and park your vehicle in the lower lot for you (so don't forget anything or you'll have to walk down to the lot to retrieve). Or you have to walk a little ways with your items/gear in hand. The onsite restaurant was a good place to grab breakfast, however, it was buffet only and it was freezing in the room. We had to wear all of our ski gear and sat by the fire and was still cold, we would have been better off taking it back to our room to eat. You are pretty limited to when it comes to food options in the village, there was a pizza place, Honey Comb grill, the in hour restaurant, and the bar. As far as entertainment, there pretty much was just the pool and a movie (Friday/Saturday) shown within the hotel. They had a pool but we didn't take advantage of it. There was locker area for your ski/snowboard equipment that you needed your room key to access as well as the key for the locker. They advertise ski in ski out, which I guess it technically is but you really have to walk about 100 yards with your gear in hand before you can pole your way to the lift. There was a small store if you needed to purchase items that you had forgotten to bring with you (toiletries, small snacks, apparel, etc). The front desk was super nice and very accommodating though. .

Third time not a charmThis was our third year coming to Solitude for President's day. The place is operating under Covid Derangement Syndrome. There is no housekeeping even though it is a hotel not a condo (and no discount for this fact). We stayed 5 nights and couldn't get 1 day of cleaning. Apparently rooms can be cleaned when guests leave for the next guests but not for current guests even if stay is longer or they ask for it. This is obviously a cost saving measure because thousands of hotels around the country offer housekeeping at least after a minimum of X day stay or if you ask for it. There are no dining options - for breakfast in the entire village only "burrito" or "croissant" (yes you read this right. If you are gluten free you are screwed). For dinner only Honeycomb restaurant. Same menu every night. On third night they ran out of one of the specials. NOWHERE to sit down for a drink after ski. The Village shop sells only junk food, beer and coke. No water (they ran out because it is President's Day weekend- somehow someone forgot it was coming and they need to stock up). On the mountain the food places were open - but you had to eat outside. We literally had to eat in the freezing temperatures (~20degrees) and in the middle of a storm (really). Like animals. 15 minutes standing there in my despair I could think of 10 things they could have done to make it better. The skiing was awesome and lift lines were not too long. The best way to do Solitude is to come with a car in the morning and leave once lifts close. And bring your own food - if you need to eat outside in the cold at least you wouldn't be ripped off for it.
