Great hotel in the best area of PhuketIf you like to work out, do some yoga, have quality food in restaurants and hang around the pool a bit, the area of Rawai is excellent. The staff of the Idol is very attentive and friendly, the rooms are clean, have atmospheric lightning (very uncommon in Thailand) and have a neat design. The beds are comfortable and the bath room is big. Only thing that could be better is the breakfast, this could be server in a better place.

5 stars for staff, 3 for location and certain amenitiesProbably waited to late to book a hotel during peak season in Phuket, so we missed opportunities in many of the popular spots. When I saw The Idol it seemed like a good option and looked chic but with a bit of Thai style. We arrived late at night. As we turned away from the beach and up into the hills my heart sank. Then we turned up a dirt road and pulled up to the towering structure (does look like the pictures) situated right across from a construction site. (good news - the construction turned out to be a non issue). Well, whatever doubts I may have had were allayed by a warm greeting from our hosts, Mr Yu (sp?) and Ben who came out to welcome us at 1AM. We settled in to our spacious and clean room and woke up to a lovely breakfast served at the little bar next to the pool just outside our room. Breakfast varied from fried eggs and toast to pineapple rice served in a pineapple (fancy!). Downside was the food was often cold by the time it got to us but we didn't mind that much. Would have liked some fresh coffee but we enjoyed trying different places in town and meeting new people (try Picolomoda- Monsori is a fount of information and a great tailor as well). One thing we didn't anticipate was our need for transportation. The beach is not in walking distance and we didn't book a car or motorbikes. We felt stranded! Again, Mr Yu to the rescue. In high season he managed to find a rental car at a reasonable price for one day (also unusual). They brought it to the hotel and we ended up asking to extend for another 1/2 day. It worked out perfectly as we were able to get the lay of the land and explore quite a few beaches up the west coast of the island. We also realized how centrally located the hotel is. So with some form of transport it ends up being a good place to set up base camp and be away from the congested beach and tourist hot spots. The staff (Ei, especially) was extremely pleasant. They helped get our laundry washed, lent us towels for the beach and when my daughter left her retainer balled up in a napkin on the breakfast bar Ei didn't just dump it but realized what it was and put it in our room. Whether we needed help booking a taxi or finding motorbikes or boat cruises they were always willing to make some calls and help out. Always with a smile. A few idiosyncrasies about the rooms- big and spacious and lots of outlets for charging devices but there is only one hook in the bathroom for hanging towels and only 4 hangers in the big closet. No under counter storage or shelves in the bathroom so we had our toiletries strewn all over the place. We could only use one drawer in the closet because the bottom one was inoperable as the closet door slider was blocking it. In general, there was not ample, functional storage space so only one of us unpacked. The others lived out of their suitcase. To sum up, nice place to stay if you are looking for more of a B and B feel and a central base camp to explore the island. If you want a "resort" experience this is not the place for you.

Warm and welcoming management made this worth the visitNeed an economy room but luxury standard this is it. It might not be on some glamorous beach, or even on a glamorous road but its super convenient - a small bike ride away from some of the best attractions in Rawai and the room was super clean, great view from upper levels - balcony and did I say excellent staff. A family run the place and helped us out when we had to rush there from the UK for a family funeral.

Good rooms, average serviceThe room was really nice and big, composed with style. As to everything else: its good if you don't expect anything. Its hardly possible to find someone on reception to help you and only one person can speak some English. Also you really need to wait for the hot water to appear.

The horrible experienceThe room was really inconveniente, bed inside the kitchen, hall without to go to the bed room was sooo hot, air condition wasn't work well and the fan was broken, they didnt have the pots and pans, when we said we like to cancel the other night they told us we couldn't, they call the police on us, because we want to cancel, and they took 10kTBath for 1 the night we stayed. Very bad customers service from the chinesse owner.
