  A real find

  Stayed for two nights and will definitely be back. Our two rooms were spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean. Decor is fresh and recent with an attention to detail. High quality bed linen and lovely fluffy towels sometimes lacking in hotels costing twice the price. Breakfast was excellent, staff all helpful and very Covid aware. A great place to stay when exploring a lovely area.

  Amazing as always

  Fabulous meal on Tuesday evening. Making use of the #eatouttohelpout. The staff were very professional and made us feel at ease during these strange times. Couldnt have asked for any better food which was fresh and tasty. Definitely worth a visit.

  Enjoyable visit before lockdown

  Had a very nice overnight stay, reasonable price, traditional comfortable room. Lovely restaurant - delicious evening meal and breakfast in atmospheric surroundings. Would definitely return, especially for restaurant

  Great wee place

  Great wee place. One night stay. Cosy room and comfortable. Meal in restaurant was superb. Definitely will return. Handy for bus into Edinburgh and Peebles (even though we didn't use it this time) Good Covid protection protocol observed. Friendly staff

  What Has Went Wrong?

  This used to be a great place to stop off but something has changed. The last twice the service and attitude has been so poor. It seems to stem from the manager/owner who walks thru the restaurant observing without doing anything, then pulling the waiting staff to the quiet bar to highlight issues for them to pick up with customers- without fronting them himself. Example after finishing main meal I asked for a glass of wine, I could not have this unless I was having a sweet, I was actually ordering cheese and wanted a glass of wine with my cheese but wanted to share the cheese with my wife, that was not acceptable as I would need to have the cheese to myself to have the glass of wine (due to Covid rules apparently). In the end they agreed it was acceptable to share cheese after speaking to the manager/owner - who left it to waiting staff to front the issue on his behalf. Today picked my son up from university in Edinburgh with my wife on way home and just after 12pm arrived, drinks order taken, manager/owner again I heard taking staff who took the order to the bar to tell them to seek age identification of my son as he asked for a beer, my son was sitting with us, my wife and I were not spoken to at all even though we sitting next to him, he replied he had no ID as it was in his packed bags in the car outside, he was told to order something else and we left. The owner/manager needs to stop using his staff to action what seems his observations as he occasionally walks thru the restaurant picking fault with the staff or customers and let his team engage with the customers positively. Covid rules need followed but hospitality needs to be hospitable. The kitchen and food remains as good as ever from what we had. Just need to sort front of house and let the nice waiting staff relax and do their job.
