  Brilliant one night stopover

  This location was chosen merely to break up the journey from Cape Town to Ooutschorn. Great decision to choose The Hideaway but bad decision to only make it the one night. The set up there was fantastic. Superb accommodation, jacuzzi, natural swimming pool, relaxing lounge area, dreamy gardens and an extensive breakfast menu. The hosts Stephen and Jackie were friendly, informative and masters of the kitchen, providing home made delights. Their team were very helpful as well. Thankfully , after a long day driving and sightseeing , Stephen had already made arrangements for us to dine at Swellendams highly rated restaurant The Drostdy. This saved us searching around in a new town for an evening meal. This turned out to be our most enjoyable meal for the entire 16 day holiday in South Africa. There is plenty to do around Swellendam and we wished we had stayed there longer to enjoy the various activities. The Hideaway is highly recommended and is deserving of all the stars.

  Very comfortable quality accommodation with very helpful owners

  On advice of friends we stopped 2 nights on our way to Knysna. It lived up to every expectation such that we stopped again on our way back. Gorgeous place, lovely people, great local advice. From the street it looks an ordinary house but once in, the grounds, rooms and pool and summer house are great. Breakfast is memorable, but leave room for the fresh baking and home made preserves. Can't think we will ever stay anywhere else in the area, while Steven and Jacquie are still there.

  A truly wonderful gem of a place

  Travelling to Wilderness stopped over at The Hideaway for one night, a fabulous location with plenty to do, a pottery next door with lovely pieces to be bought. Great selection of restaurants which our hosts Jackie and Stephen recommended to us. We chose La Sosta, we were picked up and driven to and from the restaurant its fabulous, separate review to follow. I cannot express how wonderful the Hideaway is... perfect hosts, lovely room to sleep in, great shower, free mini bar, eco pool which we swam in, terrific breakfast. Very informative hosts on where to go and what to see. Would highly recommend this wonderful hideaway.

  Magnificent Garden & Views

  We spent a night at this charming B&B en route to George. The couple who run it are helpful, friendly, and well informed about the area. Our room was spacious, tastefully decorated and well equipped. There are lovely, luxurious extras like sherry and port provided, Rain bath treats and home made extras. The garden was truly stunning with a magnificent natural pool and mountain views.

  Excellent one night stopover

  This hidden gem exceeded our expectations. The Queen Elizabeth suite was clean and comfortable with lots of extra finishing touches including complimentary port, cans of cold beer and fizzy drinks, homemade shortbread. On arrival we were told that a local restaurant , The Drostdy had been booked for us. This turned out to be the best meal we had eaten on our two week road trip. Breakfast was served outside overlooking the eco pool. This was beautifully cooked and we had homemade scones which Jackie the owner had baked that morning. The many previous comments about the owner Steven are all very accurate. We found his knowledge of the local area and beyond to be useful however the way in which he delivers his information can come across as rude. For example when asking about what was the best time to see the animals on a game drive his response was "the animals are not there for you to gawp at!", which he then followed up with a useful answer. We would definitely recommend this lovely place.
