    Comfortable stay and decent food

Fantastic little pub. The owner Jeremy was top class. Their fish and chips were to die for, possibly the best Ive had since moving to ludgershall! Stayed overnight, my room was a little untidy when Visited, but they quickly sorted the issue. Will definitely be back

Fawlty Towers-style confusion gives way to fantastic food!

Revisiting the area with my sister and brother-in-law we took lunch here. A pleasant welcome by the young lady and am agreeable window table. Amusingly, however, we were each presented with an array of delicious-looking but wholly unordered meals due to a kitchen mix up - followed by another equally unordered array, my wife being served by no fewer than three quite distinctly different meals before them being whisked swiftly away. Order followed chaos, however, and the correct order which eventually arrived was absolutely first class. I could go on about the generous, thick, ham in my wife's ploughmans, my superb roasted vegetables etc., but suffice it to say that mt 83 year-old sister ate every scrap of her venison pie and my brother-in-law - who never eats anything other than chicken tikka masala - declared the Hatchet's offering to be the very best he had ever tasted. A superb, welcoming hostelry with unpretentious yet brilliant grub.

    Monday lunch

Booked for 10 for lunch at 13.30. Upon booking asked to pre-order.We declined. Service ok.Food excellent. However we were given the pudding menu before the main course was barley finished & plates cleared. We wewe told it was because the kichen staff were going home. How difficult is it to cut a piece of cheese cake or obtain a scoop of ice-cream? This lovely old village pub is in danger of loosing its way. What is it trying to be? Certainly not relaxing, changes to decor starting to look too modern. Please think about where you are going with this .

    New Years Eve

We stayed for 1 night for NYE in our way back from the coast. We got a warm welcome, the food was excellent, our room was clean and comfortable with a big bed, breakfast is a full English plus toast, yoghurt and cereals included. I liked they had a hairdryer in the room. Good coffee and a lovely big pot of tea for the morning after! The restaurant was busy for dinner but we didnt have to wait, mostly locals in the bar & restaurant. Good family atmosphere. We couldnt hear any noise from our room so got a great nights sleep too! Lovely hotel, great room, super food!

Stopped here for one night and met friends for dinner. Bed room and bathroom were spotless. Light, airy room. Bar/restaurant was busy but service was excellent. Liver and bacon was an excellent choice. Partner had a very full fish pie! There are vegan option available. Landlord and owner Jeremy Mckay is on the ball!
