Plastic, 1-piece bathroomsThe Hamilton Hotel in Sapporo is an ok choice for people on a budget: it's cheap and offers clean rooms. The rooms are small however, and that goes even more for the bathrooms, which seem to be made totally out of plastic. The hotel has a nice lobby, a good conference room and great staff. The breakfast isn't great if you prefer continental ones (some toast and jam, and that's it), but they serve a fine japanese breakfast.

real dissapointment on the breakfast buffet front...stayed for 3 nights on business at the hamilton sapporo. check in was smooth. room was reasonably larger than expected for a business hotel. the shower/bath/toilet was very small for a 6ft adult but survived. not many restaurants in the area but a 15 minute walk or a 1000 yen taxi ride gets you to the centre of sapporo (i.e.:susukino area). not reallhy recommended for a family stay. their breakfast buffet was very poor and not what i would expect from hokkaido. real dissapointment on the breakfast front. otherwise, clean, friendly, reasonable business hotel.

Good price, small room.We were here over the holidays to visit a family member who lives in Sapporo, actually close to this hotel which is why we stayed here. Not sure we would have picked this place otherwise. After staying at high-end hotels in Toyko and Hiroshimi it was a bit shocking to see the size of the room but we settled in for our 4 night stay. It's a business hotel and would be fine for a single person but at two or more the room gets cramped. The service is good but that's the case everywhere in Japan. The breakfast was fine for 700 yen but it is primarily Japanese, which is what I prefer. Western selections were cereal and toast. The location is right on the trolly line with quick access downtown and there is a subway within a few blocks. Also there is a Lawson right around the corner which is open 24 hours so you can keep the fridge loaded with snacks or Sapporos. There is no english TV (I like my CNN and BBC) but there is free Wi-Fi in the lobby. For the cost this is a viable option to visit Sapporo. I think we paid around a $100 a night.

meh, you can do betterThis is a low-end business hotel, one that it is starting to show its age. The rooms are small and basic; I wasn't sure if the decor was supposed to by wabisabi or the walls were simply encrusted with decades of smoke. The walls were thin and there were three ojisan in the next room talking loudly until well after midnight. The breakfast was mediocre at best. For 800 yen you get a scant buffet that closes at 9:30am. I got there at 8:30 and they were already packing it down though! No orange juice or coffee left and they were not going to replace it until I asked them to do so. For the same price, you would be better off going up the road to the Yayoi Kaikan; they have a fantastic onsen there. I would have stayed there but they were full, so book early and avoid the Hamilton unless you have business in the neighborhood.

Functional but decent business hotel - good for visa officeThis is a good, clean hotel. I didn't use the breakfast or other facilities but the room was clean, functional and small without being cramped. Good for solo travelers killing a night before early flights from New Chitose, or business travelers. The location is a little out of the way but only 15 minutes' walk to the start of the main restaurant district. Also worth noting that it's only 10 minutes' walk to the regional visa office which is quite handy if you need to make extensions.
