  Horrible Experience and Over Priced

  Except for the big rooms and AC nothing else was ok. The rooms were old, dirty curtains, extremely dirty carpets, super noisy corridors and rooms. Cleaning service was bad. The toilets were self flushing every now and then. The room service was horrible (they dont even pick ur call for orders) the lifts were badly maintained. The tv looks like 30 yrs over where u can hardly see anything from your bed. The hair dryer was not working and so was the hot shower

  Good hotel,overloking the sea helpful friendly staff, close to George town city centre

  We were happy with this hotel with its friendly reception staff. Despite we stayed during the school holiday season, there were no problems that we faced with except a crowd at the lifts. The room was spacious with the ocean view. The bathroom had a shower cubicle and a jacuzzi!. The room was adequately furnished and clean. There were tea and coffee making facilities and an excellent powerful Wi-Fi throughout the hotel. The only problem was the lack of a shaver point in the bathroom. The hotel foyer was amazingly attractive and spacious. The hotel was clean throughout. The restaurant on the first floor served breakfast which was very good and had varieties of tasetful local food where you could order the way you want your omlette to be prepared. Very friendly and active restaurant staff. It took us 50 minutes to walk to Times square of George town but on the way back the taxi took only 10 minutes although local buses could be used too. There are plenty of liocal restaurants and the Paragon shopping centre was only 15-minute walk. Highly recommended.

  Spacious room and cheap rate

  The hotel in general cannot be complain with the cheap room rate and spacious room that it offers despite it is an old hotel. The location is not too far from the gurney drive shopping area. There wasnt any sufficient staff to man the reception, I got to wait for more than 15 minutes before my check-in is being process. The room has a stale smell if you dont mind. The card key to the room door is always deactivated, in the end every time when I return back to the hotel I go straight to the reception and ask them to reprogram the card key so that I do not need to go up my room and down again as the lift is slow moving.

  A good place for vacation

  We stayed at Gurney Resort Hotel on 2nd January 2020. We booked two rooms and we requested for connecting room. So, my mom and dad in one room. I and my sister in one room. The officers in lobby were so friendly. They opened the door for us when we entered the lobby gate. After we checked in, there was an officer who picked up our luggages and brought it to our rooms. The rooms were so clean and wide. The view relaxed my eyes. The price was worthed for the facility and service. But, the location was far enough from Komtar. There was no pharmacy nearby the hotel.

  Excellent service by Danesh (Concierge)

  My elderly parents stayed at The Gurney during their medical checkup in Penang and accidentally left behind some documents. We emailed the hotel and left a message through booking.com to no avail. Then through a phone call, we got connected to Danesh at the Concierge Department, who then went the extra mile to coordinate among various departments within the hotel, and mailed the document through express courier service. His attentive service is highly appreciated.
