  Quirky comfortable and friendly

  We stayed for one night between Christmas and New year's. We received a warm welcome on arrival and were quickly shown to our room. We had room 1 which was very clean, well furnished and had a wonderful bathroom with an amazing bath. We ate in the pub in the evening - lovely whitebait, great lasagne and lively faggots. Great choice of beer and wine. Great nights sleep and a great selection of tea and coffee in the room. Breakfast was great - full English with good quality coffee. Checkout was efficient and cheerful.

  Great Find on the High Street

  We were walking the streets of Marlborough in the pouring rain, trying to find a decent pub that would allow us with our two dogs in......lo and behold, the GD said yes!! A very pleasant young lad behind the bar showed us down to a little Snug with a gas fire which was most welcome. Food was great.....whitebait starter was outstanding and wife and I both went "off-piste" with a Lamb Curry and a Chilli.....young Chef actually came out to see us, as my wife loves really spicy food and I have to be careful......so he recommends the Curry for me and the Chilli for wife and they were both spot-on. So instead of a quick meal, we stayed for a couple of beers and a bottle of decent white......thank you to all at the GD for such a welcome; such great food and hospitality!!

  Cheaper than London

  We had lunch here on a wet Sunday. The service was excellent, efficient and friendly. In spite of the pub being busy we didnt have to wait long for our food and drink. The Wadsworths beer was OK, but not my favourite. Our fish and chips was good, with good chips. The pollock was rather lost in the batter, but it was such crispy batter that it didnt matter. We asked if we could have sweet potato chips instead of the usual ones, but we couldnt, sadly.

  A pleasant few hours warming up

  A big thank you to the lady who looked after a very wet and cold biker on Monday 10th, who saw a warming fire in the hearth and a friendly reception awaiting. The service and hospitality were second to none. So if your in Marlbourough don't miss this little gem of a pub. See you soon and thanks

  Delighted its our local

  We visited tonight for the first time. Its a short hop over the road abs we are SO thrilled its our local. Lovely, lovely staff, amazing food at incredible prices - genuinely homemade and very tasty. Cosy and nicely decorated. My son would give it a 10 if he could. Thanks all, a really wonderful job.
