  The hotel has seen better days. The room smelled heavily of cleaning materials.....in fact it stank. The carpet and chair had cigarette burns. The paint was chipped. The reservation site requires careful scrutiny before booking; our so-called complimentary breakfast was not available because we selected a special rate. We booked the hotel because dinner was supposed to be available; it wasn't, as the hotel had new covid hours, which were not posted on the restaurant website. Never again.

  Grand Hotel

  My stay at the Grand Hotel in Nanaimo was better than expected, the staff was wonderful, friendly, courteous and helpful. They went above and beyond to help me out with a special request. The room was clean, nicely furnished and had all the amenities I required. I will stay again.

  Awful hotel

  My family and I stayed here last week for a night and it was terrible. First, the parking garage was incredibly dark and felt unsafe, then the elevator looked like it belonged in an old warehouse with a sign stating it may not work all the time. At first glance our room seemed nice then we noticed stains on the carpet,our bedsheets felt like paper towel,they only put enough towels in the bathroom for one person despite the fact they knew 4 people would be staying. My daughter was excited to try the jacuzzi tub but the jets were broken, faucet was leaking as well. For the amount we paid there wasn't even a simple complimentary breakfast. Would not stay again!

  September visit

  We had 2 rooms booked as there was 2 families on this over night stay. As per one review yes, the parking lot is extremely poorly lit. Even as an employee I would not be too happy going down there anytime after sunset, even during the day it's very dim. I would recommend a major upgrade in lighting for the underground parking. The hotel is very dated but our room was clean and no complaints on that end. The hallways could also use more light. We had a small patio over looking the front entrance which was very nice. Also for me it is always a bonus when the windows can be opened. For an overnight visit we would stay again. Not for everyone if you prefer something more modern and updated. Somewhat disappointed on the free breakfast. Not sure I would bother with it if I knew it was pre packaged due to Covid19. I personally prefer a buffet type style free breakfast set up. Please note there is major development construction going on at the end of the dead end road. If you're a light sleeper that may be an issue if you're staying at that end of the hotel

  Big rooms

  Stayed here for a couple of nights. Really surprised at how large the rooms were enjoyed the big old dog that sleeps near the front desk. Yes it does move once in awhile lol. The staff were very nice and it is easy to find and if you want take out food Macdonald and Tim Hortons are very close by. Easy access to malls and highway and ferrys
