RevistAfter a few years we decided to revisit this hotel, now run by Shearings, we booked via Booking.com as the prices were better and the booking process much easier. As before the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, we requested room 101 (which was an upgrade) where we had stayed before, the room as a whole was good, but did need a slight makeover especially the bathroom. The breakfast was excellent, plenty of choice. Drivers should be prepared for a £6 a day parking charge in the hotel car park. Will definitely stay there again

Nice stay but some hiccups!Stayed here with friends for a big birthday occasion. Had informed the hotel in advance asking if they could do anything special for birthday boy .... not a card or even sprinkles on the table. Our room 114 was lovely and newly refurbished, however while the shower cubicle looked spacious, the water pressure was very low. This meant spending some time trying to get enough water over you so you could actually wash! The view was awful, see photo's. We didn't upgrade to sea view admittedly, but did go for standard plus. Even some screens outside would've been better to block the horrid view of pipes! The hotel relies on coach parties in the main, and unless you're up early to beat the coach goers, the breakfast can he rather sparse. Only unripe, hard kiwi fruit and slices of water melon left of the fresh fruit salad for instance. Yesterday I was just told that they don't provide fresh fruit salad on a Friday! The waitress did however come back with an orange and a few grapes. You help yourself to hot drinks but the small water jugs are too small to cope with demand, so guests are constantly having to ask for more hot water. A large size hot water flask x 2 would solve the issue. One of the top of the range rooms 101 was very nice, with a superb sea view. However the wind whistling through the bay window drove the guests mad, until they asked for sellotape to try and resolve the issue themselves! The one evening meal we had on site was nice, although we did have to send the vegetable platters back as they were only just warm. After about 9pm we were the only people in the restaurant and even the staff had gone home! Have to say that the staff were pleasant and friendly. We think the hotel had recently been bought by the Bay Group so saw decoration of rooms underway. In the meantime, the hotel is a work in progress. Disabled guests be aware that the disabled lift from the car park to reception isn't working and hasn't been it would seem, for some time. The only way in is by some eight quite steep steps.

Great value. Great position.Stayed for a long weekend, Friday - Monday early March. Self drive but it's a coach destination aswell. Reception excellent. Room good. Recently redecorated. You're not paying for 5 stars. Don't expect it. Food absolutely excellent as was the service in restaurant and bar. Early season crowd. No rubbish. Mainly middle to late aged. Spotless. Tremendous position just across the road from the beach. 1st class value for money. Recommended. (If you can find something to complin about here then you really should consider staying at home. It's all about what you can make of it and enjoying what you get.) Small lift to all floors. Small entertainment room. Ample seating in lounge and bar areas. Get there.
