  No use for families with young children

  We are a family of 3- Mum, Dad and a 1 year old who stayed here for an overnight on our way back to Scotland from our weeks holiday down South. We stayed here on a Friday night and the hotel was very very busy with what looked like the reception of a funeral when we arrived. The reception is tiny and a lot of people were drunk which wasn't ideal for social distancing as we needed to walk past a lot of people at close proximity just to get into the hotel. From our experience this hotel is not suitable if you want a quiet relaxing time or a good sleep due to the noisy pubs next door and across the road. The pub next door, 'the middle tap' was packed outside from when we arrived at 6pm until around 9.30pm with a large group of boys drinking, shouting and urinating in the lane next to the pub which was right outside of our hotel window. This was really upsetting for us with a young baby as he goes to sleep at 7pm normally. My wife spoke to the very helpful man at reception but the only other room available was Room 5 which is directly above the hotel bar and he said this would be worse for noise so we had no option but to stay. Fortunately everyone from the 'middle tap' moved across the road at around 9.30pm so we couldn't hear them much after that. That was still 2 and a half hours of a screaming baby and us stuck in a room listening to noise and praying for some peace and quiet. The hotel manager called us around 9pm and asked if we were OK, my wife told him it was a bit better now and we were blasting out baby lullabies to help our baby chill out and to hide the noise of the revellers below. Maryport is a small town with a nice harbour and beach and some shops. This hotel is situated near the front. The room was basic but clean and a great view of the harbour. The breakfast was very nice and the waitress like all the staff we dealt with was very friendly. I have attached some photos of our view from the room.

  The Golden Lion

  The only good thing about our stay at The Golden Lion was Antonios bar next door and the location. Food quality and service outstanding. Had a wonderful day until we were placed in room 5 at a last minutes notice which was good of them but had we known how noisy it was going to be all the way through the night and morning we would have chosen somewhere else. Ive had next to no sleep due to constant banging, noise from the street and noise from other guests. I suggest whoever runs the place spends a night in that room because if they did theyd find it completely unacceptable. Not happy and wont be using that place again.

  Nice hotel

  Lovely room clean and stylish with a seaveiw. A bit noisy from the bar next door at first but that shut about 8.30 and it was fine. Just a very short walk to the harbour with lovely views across the sea to Scotland.

  Antonios cocktail bar

  First time at Antonios, and it certainly wont be the last When we ordered our meals, we ordered the Tex mex mini tortillas and Ashton asked us if wed like a pot of sour cream in case they were too spicy Ashton gave us excellent advice because for our tastes the sour cream was very much appreciated, Thanks Ashton Then when our first cocktails arrived mine was that full that a little spilled onto the table when I moved it, Luke was really on the ball noticing that Id spilled the drink (I was actually licking it up off the table only joking) I was mopping the spill up and Luke came over with some serviettes to mop it up brilliant service Lovely cocktails and meals, lovely friendly staff Philip Cueto Ashton, Luke & Chelsea are a credit to you, so welcoming and helpful, top class service We will definitely be back very soon

  Lush food

  Tapas style menu. Dirty nachos and hollumi chips, ordered 5 dishes and was plenty, great cocktails and homemade sticky toffee pudding, friendly and helpful staff - didnt have to wait too long for food, chilled night. Will be back again
