Budget hotel. Old and limited, but quite acceptable. We enjoyed our stay at the Glastonbury. There was a Wowcher deal for another hotel in Eastbourne, but sold out of family rooms for our dates during half term. After a search I found this place on Hotels.com with a view of the sea and the pier for less than the Wowcher deal. It worked fine for us. We are used to budget hotels, and know their weaknesses. It is not uncommon for things to not work, and/or for facilities not to be offered. They are often once grand hotels that have not kept up with the times, and struggle financially with the need to refurbish to meet modern tastes and expectations while also keeping up with the maintenance needs of an older building. Often such hotels would be better off being demolished and starting again, but then you'd lose some of the charm that can be found in such older places. To be fair there isn't a lot of charm in the Glastonbury, but there is some. Our room, which clearly had once formed part of a much larger suite, had a marble fireplace, and a bay window with sash windows overlooking Eastbourne beach and pier. Anyway, the place is quite simple - there's no decoration in the room, just the beds and chairs (we had a family room, so had two beds). There is a tv and a kettle with a plentiful supply of tea and coffee, but little in the way of variety - it was just tea and coffee - no decaff, no fruit or herb, no Early Grey, no hot chocolate, just budget tea and instant coffee. No fridge. The ensuite had recently been refurbished so looked good, but had been done to a budget, so toilet sometimes didn't refill, and had to be jiggled, and the shower had little power, and the handle dropped back so what power there was dropped off very quickly unless held. The room was clean, and sheets were clean. We stayed for two nights, and our room wasn't refreshed. We each had one small tablet of soap - no shower gel or shampoo. The room was comfortable with enough space for the three of us, plenty of wardrobe space and plenty of hangers, and we had a view of the sea and the pier. We hadn't expected much for the money, and were neither disappointed nor thrilled (well, yes we did love the view!). There is parking out the front which you have to pay for, or parking on the streets at the back and sides for free. We didn't eat or do anything at the hotel other than sleep. When doing a city break in the UK we like to breakfast at Wetherspoons. Difficult to find any hotel that can match a Wetherspoon breakfast for price, variety and quality. Plus, you can have a beer with your breakfast! Nice. Anyway. The Glastonbury is an OK place. Not the place you'd choose for a romantic weekend, but it works well if all you want is somewhere clean and comfortable to lay your head, and you don't want or need the frills. And you are prepared for some acceptable flaws.

Plated breakfast consisted of 1sausage 1 rasher of bacon, one egg and fried bread .staff excellent, toast and tea and coffee also served Entertainment only saw bits of it so can't really comment Lift is like stepping back in time and hold 3 normal sized people at a push Overall an adequate hotel with good helpful staff Stay again YES

Worth what we paid very friendlyWent with a coach tour. The staff were lovely. Like many seaside hotels it was dated but I really enjoyed the stay and will go back again. Some people were complaining that maintenance work was being carried out that happens on luxury cruise lines ! It was great to get away during these difficult times and thanks to Harry Shaw Coventry and Glastonbury hotel we enjoyed ourselves.
