Old treasure & a complete pleasureI'm always made to feel very welcome at Grundys Tavern & The Georgian House Hotel. The management & staff are always helpful & friendly. As I too was a guest on Saturday 22nd February ... I feel I need to write a review to give another perspective (to previous review)& also point out There was 'No Fire' & 'No danger to life'. The only thing that needed to be controlled & reset was the fire alarm. It was unfortunate that the staff on the night didn't know how to do this. The manager was called & he was on his way. Yet one of the guests took it upon themselves to dial 999 but they still it would seem, that them & other guests opted to stay inside the hotel rather than stand out in the cold & rain at the fire assembly point, but then complained to the fire brigade that they (the guests) shouldn't be here & that they hadn't been asked to evacuate the building ??? As you can see from attached photo the fire assembly point is in fact in the car park & these notices are in every room of the hotel. At this point I did point this out to them. I am right in thinking that the guests are responsible for familiarising themselves with the evacuation procedures & escape routes & getting themselves & any others in their charge to safety of the fire assembly point. Whenever you're staying in a unfamiliar place it's one of the first things you do (I'm sure & I hope, if there was a actual fire, that guests would have made there way to the assembly point without needing to be asked or told to do so) as I'm also sure the staff on the night would have asked & directed guests to safety .... I very much doubt that the guests on the night in question would have appreciated being asked to leave & stand in the car park in the cold & rain when it was quite clear there was no fire!!! I would also like to point out that the manager didn't get aggressive when questioned about fire procedures, (as stated in previous review) he merely asked why the guest hadn't left the building then, why was he there? The manager had the guest log & asked the guest in question his room number & the guest replied "I don't need to tell you that" when the manager pointed out that he did need to tell him so he could account for him he did reluctantly tell him. I stay over quite regularly, most of the guests on this particular evening were fine, a bit disgruntled understandably due to the events, but generally ok, but others were very rude to the bar staff & manager.

Comfy night in quirky grandeurWood panelling, 4 poster beds, tasseled lamp shades... the Georgian House is a lot of vintage fun. We imagined ourselves to be in an Agatha Christie novel. The full English breakfast was very good. The staff were very thoughtful in putting us with baby in the quietest room, and returning the comforter we left.

Tribute to a family friend - WakeFrom the moment we spoke to Karen to reserve the room for Junes wake we were filled with confidence especially in the current climate. Nothing was to much trouble for the staff to organise our wishes for the loss of a very special lady. On the day social distancing and hygiene was strictly observed by staff and guests. We were very impressed with table service by all of the lovely staff . The rooms were set out beautifully and the food ....... well what can I say it was amazing and booked for 30 people however, could of fed 100 thank you to the chef for his hard work and Karen for being so caring on this special day . We would definitely recommend this venue to anyone for any occasion. Thank you again to all of the staff who made this day so special in memory of June xx

Great hotelVery pleasant hotel and pub and very convenient for the city centre and the surrounding student areas (this was a trip to visit youngest kid at the Uni). We went for one of the 4 poster rooms and found it to be extremely clean with a comfortable bed. The bar downstairs is friendly with quick service (at the table in these Covid times) with a good choice of drinks . The décor is eccentric - in a good way and really adds to the overall feel of the place. . We had a great evening - and despite it being Halloween the hotel ghost did not disturb us!
