A unique experience in a central locationI saw this boatel on the canal whilst visiting my daughter who was at university in Edinburgh. I thought it was so unique and Id always wanted to go on a barge. I checked the availability for my daughters graduates s was delighted it was free. I had several family members arriving and I thought it would be wonderful to all be in the one place and not several rooms in a hotel. The Italian restaurant opposite was fabulous and try Loudons across the road for breakfast or brunch ( a favourite of ours). Princess street is in walking distance also. The boatel was very well equipped and provides their own eco friendly shampoos, conditioner and showroom gel, so you dont need to bring any. I would recommend the 2 minute walk to the toilet and shower block instead of using the loo on the boat. It was hard to find initially though. Had to try the key in a few doors first so Id recommend asking to be shown it. Overall we had a fab couple of days topped off by good weather.

A Unique ExperienceOur family had a great time staying on the boatel. Although the quarters are a little tight, they are accurately described. The accommodations were charming, clean, well stocked. The shower and bathroom are small, so if you are very tall or a little larger in stature, it probably is not for you. We stayed for 2 nights and loved it (3 adults & 3 kids).

Completely unique staycation experienceWe had a night here and it was truly excellent. Natalie went above and beyond to make our stay very special. She laid out a magnificent feast (see below) which we very much enjoyed. This is a perfect boatel for something different. We will be back.

Overall enjoyable stay, but not luxury as advertisedOverall we had an enjoyable 2 night stay, making the most of our time in Edinburgh. The Boatel is advertised as a luxury houseboat, but in our opinion it is definitely only a standard accommodation, double beds are very small and short in length, bunk beds are only suitable for very small children and pull down bed is a very small double. Comfortably it is suited to only 3 or 4 adults (plus 2 small children). The shower cubicle is tiny, but their is facilities located a few blocks away. We booked this based on the listed luxury facilities listed as after 20 weeks shielding (COVID) a massage and foot spa sounded just the therapy we needed. We were disappointed to find the massage chair was broken and very old and worn. There was no foot spa (advised after arriving that this was due to COVID). Listed was the use of a BBQ and bikes but these were also not available. Other home from home facilities were good, with hairdryer, straighteners, tea/coffee, utensils, cooker, microwave, kettle, coffee maker etc. The cleanliness of the boat was not 100% as I would have expected esp during a pandemic. Every window was covered in cobwebs, which I immediately cleaned myself and I also had to dust some areas too. We did receive a very warm welcome and had a lovely vase of fresh red roses onboard. In general the boat needs a little updating and all listed facilities to be made available to bring it up to a superior accommodation. We were able to bring our 2 dogs at no extra cost which was brilliant. The children enjoyed having a go with the fishing rods but only succeeded in catching seaweed. Lol I would recommend a stay onboard but the description (very small beds) and facilities onboard should be clarified to exactly what is available, a thorough deep clean between guests is a must and prices should be amended to reflect what you actually get.

Amazing overnight stay!Central, romantic, unique and luxurious. Loved our stay. Lots to do nearby and onboard the boat. Natalie had thought of everything to make us comfortable - fresh flowers, hamper and decorations. Brilliant for a safe self-catered staycation. Nice eco friendly products and a beautiful spot on the canal.
