Half TermWe visited the Falmouth Hotel during half term week with our 2 children and have had the most wonderful stay from start to finish. Our family room was large, clean and had the most spectacular views over Castle Beach (despite the weather); our bed was a very comfortable queen with enough room for a little one to creep into in the middle of the night! I am so impressed at how the hotel has adapted to running under the restrictions of the current climate, we could see the effort that has been put in to make us and the other guests feel safe with one way systems, plentiful hand sanitizer and the efficient organisation throughout. This was especially noticeable at breakfast where we were able to book a time slot to avoid queues and everything was ordered from the menu. Despite not being able to use some of the usual spa facilities due to restrictions we were able to use the pool and and gym, this is the thing the children look forward to the most when we go away. The pool was very clean, bright and warm, again with a good one way system in place through the changing rooms. Its well worth a visit even if youre not staying as a guest! We ate in the hotel restaurant in our first night (see photos below!) we were tired and hungry when we arrived. We were all very impressed with our meals; my starter and fish and chips were both very tasty, and with with a chef in the family its not always easy to impress! The level of service we have received the last few days has been nothing short of a 5 star experience, the staff here are warm and friendly, some with a great knowledge of the local area and happy to chat over breakfast. Special thanks to the reception team and the breakfast staff who have all gone above and beyond the last few days. Thank you all very much.

Tired and DreadfulWe stayed here on Friday 31st as our daughter was returning to university at Penryn the following day. Our booking was for two rooms; a deluxe sea view and a single for our daughter total cost £300. We arrived in the early evening and the weather was awful so we were looking forward to taking it easy, having a nice family meal and a good nights sleep. Upon arrival we noticed the very poor condition of the car park surface and there was heavy construction plant near to the front door. Once we were inside the hotel it became immediately obvious that this establishment is trading off past glory as the lobby was dark and uninviting and in need of serious refurbishment. Due to social distancing requirements we had to book time slots in the restaurant for both dinner and breakfast. We had no issue with this but what was not revealed on check-in (or at the time of booking) was that the main restaurant was closed due to a ceiling leak and they were using a temporary annex for dining of which more later. The "deluxe" sea view room was clean but very tired and the bed was tiny for a double. Toiletries were only provided for one person which came in a cardboard cup along with UHT milk and instant coffee. Covid it seems is becoming a cover for slovenly service. The single for my daughter was disgraceful, dark and poky and unfit for occupation. In any other circumstances we would have left immediately but after a five hour car journey we were tired and hungry and we had prepaid for the rooms. We headed for dinner and were directed down a dingy corridor with threadbare carpet and dirty unpainted walls. When we reached the restaurant we could hardly credit what we saw. The room contained a series of cheap wooden tables without any table cloths each numbered and was the most depressing environment you could imagine. We genuinely thought we had taken a wrong turn and arrived at the staff canteen. Whilst the servers did their best it could not overcome the surroundings which would be unacceptable in a cheap youth hostel let alone one calling its self a 4* hotel. The food was equally uninspiring and my wife and daughter left most of their meal uneaten. The mussels i chose were tasty but the tiniest portion I ever saw served in a unheated dish which saw them go cold almost upon serving. It was simply dreadful. After a poor nights sleep for all of us and an even worse breakfast in the annex we were extremely glad to leave this place. I had read some of the positive reviews posted before our trip and simply have no idea how this hotel can garner such praise. It is a dark tired and grotty place in need of a complete refurbishment from the ground up. We will be regular visitors to Falmouth over the next few years but will certainly never stay here again.

Pre-lockdown visitMy wife and I managed to squeeze in a 2 night stay at the Falmouth immediately before the latest lockdown. We had a fantastic sea view room with loads of space. We have stayed before about 5 years ago, and the renovation work continues to impress. Great location for the town centre, only 10 Mts walk for a couple of 70 + pensioners !. The staff team must be the most friendly anywhere we have visited.

Fantastic service. We visited here at the weekend for Sunday lunch (13/12/20). We have stayed here before and looked forward to seeing the hotel again. After being greeted by a lovely, friendly and helpful receptionist (sorry, I didnt get any names), we had a swim in the pool then had tea in the lounge whilst waiting for our table. The service was exceptional from every member of staff that we encountered. They were all smiling, helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The roast dinners were very tasty and well presented too. All the Covid procedures in place meant that we felt safe throughout. Well done to all the staff at the hotel who are obviously working very hard to keep the hotel as safe and as welcoming as possible.

Dont stay here if you are under 60!We started our stay by waiting at reception for the single member of staff to handle multiple customers and phone calls before directing us to our room via a lift that had broken down. Oh dear she said when we brought this fact to her attention, good job youre only on the second floor Still in a generous mood we ignored the paper bag stuffed with sachets of instant coffee and granted it a 4 stars seal of approval for the view alone (note to future visitors, bring your own toiletries and coffee) The fun began upon arrival for dinner. We were happy to chuckle at the Faulty Towers decor and the fact that we were the youngest there by far. Hubby was looking forward to steak but alas, the choice was pork or fish (and if you dont like that have a ready made mushroom strudel al la Lidl, or left over turkey dinner (just what you want on Dec 27))Hmm, after a quick check on the internet and a look outside at biblical rain we settled on pork and a strudel. Credit where credit is due the pork was great and I was happy to wash it down with cheap albeit overpriced Pinot Grigio. I did feel sorry for hubby though, with a strudel that looked like a back of the freezer mid week itll do meal. We had already figured by now that this place caters for the older clientele and our waitress had the lovely air of a carer about her. So I couldnt help but have some fun. Can I have the cocktail menu I asked when she cleared away our plates. Visibly confused she went away for a few minutes before returning to say that they didnt serve cocktails at this late hour, This late hour of ten to nine I said before we all enjoyed a chuckle. She made up a recipe for Irish coffee for which I was very grateful. However we had the sense by now the staff wanted to get home and it was past our bedtime. This place is going to be a great nursing home.
