Dont Get Ripped OffFirst, the good: the building is in a nice location, the outside old world country club charm, indoor common areas are up to date and inviting, staff was very nice, food and service was very good at Marsh tavern. The bad: the room was like 1994 Home Depotthey MUST upgrade! Old wall paper, TV was a disaster, old furniture, plastic bathroom curtain w marks on it, bathroom drain didnt work well so it backed up when brushing teeth, bathroom fixtures were old Home Depot, it really needs major upgrade if they want to charge as they do AND collect resort fees on top of that. Which brings to booking and fees when booking, was told total was $487 for two nights, third night free. While I was told the initial deposit would be one night, they charged $294 to my card ok, money was going to get spent anyway, but not a good sign. Upon check out, I owed $487 more! Of the 487, 130 was pet fee (ok), 38 was food (ok) the rest resort fees and taxes these matters shouldve been addressed during the booking process which was done by phone. In short, its a beautiful town, place is in a nice location and it feels nice when you walk in, but the rest was all downhill and I left with a foul taste in my mouth like I had just gotten ripped off not a good way to end a getaway.

Keeps getting worse (Horrible Experience)Ok so, lots to discuss. My wife and I got married at the Equinox in May of 2013. It was absolutely amazing. The rooms were amazing, the food at the Marsh Tavern was amazing and the Chop House was exquisite. Over the years we have watched the Equinox slowly decline. This year we went to the Equinox first in September of 2020, and then again February 26-28 2021. It has absolutely taken a turn for the worst. Back in September the Marsh Tavern wasn't even serving food, thank God for the Kimpton down the street. The room back in September was also just as horrible. We were put in a corner room with Heating and Air Conditioning units outside the window. It was so loud and the front desk said we could not be moved. So our daughter who is 6 could not sleep because of the noise levels. Just recently we thought to ourselves lets try again. So we booked our stay for 287.00 per night plus taxes and resorts fees which comes out to be around 750 dollars for the weekend. When I arrived I was sent to a room with buckets and wet towels all over the floor. My dog was able to grab rubber hose and wet towel, and almost choked. It was absolutely horrible. Whey would you send someone to a room under some sort of maintenance? I was moved to another room that was just ok. Nothing special. Friday night we arrived and wanted to eat at the Marsh Tavern. The food/menu was absolutely horrible. What ever happened to the Marsh Tavern and just being able to provide simple bread and butter? After paying that bill which was about 80 plus dollars, we moved into the Chop House. Mary Beth provided excellent service and the food was amazing. Thank you Mary Beth for being so wonderful and amazing. We always love visiting the Chop House and having Mary Beth serve us. Attention to detail was amazing. Nothing left unturned. We quickly realized that after giving the Equinox thousands upon thousands of dollars over the years, its just a sinking ship. I have encouraged friends not to visit and to take their money elsewhere (Kimpton Hotel) down the block. If you can't enjoy a decent meal why stay. Its so upsetting to see the Marsh Tavern's menu. Basically nothing to offer except some cod, pot pie, and horrible meat and cheese board. We used to love going to the Falcon Bar and getting Vermont Meat and Cheese / Chocolates. Where did that go? Can't get a straight answer from anyone! Everytime I ask, I hear crickets. JUST GO SOMEWHERE ELSE AND ONLY GO TO THE CHOPHOUSE AND HAVE MARYBETH SERVE YOU, OTHERWISE JUST STAY AT THE KIMPTON DOWN THE BLOCK AND HAVE AN AMAZING MEAL AT THE COPPER GROUSE. THEN WALK ACROSS THE STREET AND GO TO THE CROOKED RAM TO HAVE WINE AND CHEESE / DINNER. The Crooked Ram is what the Falcon Bar used to be. Anthony Mannuzza

It is 3:30 AM and Im Unpleasantly AwakeWe moved from a large creepy room with an extremely loud heater to another room that was cold and with a very loud heater - it goes off every 20-minutes and sounds like a car being started in your room. Im a somewhat light sleeper but this is ridiculous and disappointing. There are other quirky things about the hotel that Id give a pass because of covid except its clear they have become accustomed to using Covid as the reason the hotel isnt operating at a four star level but covid isnt the reason and they know this. When you pull up to the hotel there is no one there. I wasnt sure I was at the right entrance because it looked closed. We drove around the corner and ended right back at the empty entrance. The front desk staff seemed very nice but I was shocked that they were surprised that I had a lot of ski stuff to bring in (thousands of people come to town to go to Stratton) there was not not one person to help or even a cart on hand to bring out to the car. When I booked the room over the phone I said I have a lot of stuff (5 race skis) and want to avoid a long walk hauling everything and I was assured that would not be the case. It was entirely the case. The front desk also seemed surprised that I thought the heater in my room was loud - as if hmm, other guests have never mentioned this. Im the one to blame I booked a room here based on reputation and didnt bother to do any research before hand. Had I looked at the previous guests comments I would have gone elsewhere. this used to be a lovely setting, great location but it is desperately in need of an upgrade. Ill add we arrived from Top Notch in Stowe, VT - where the rooms / heating could use an upgrade but the rooms are nothing like this and there are employees and services at every turn - including a valet and someone greeting you which is hardly essential except these are the things that come with a four star rating and rates($$$$)! Thankfully we are only staying here one night (thus not wanting the long walk from the car w my stuff) and will check-into a condo at Stratton where I know the room is way overpriced but so quiet!! I would not be able to stay in this room sleepless another night.

Huge DisappointmentSo disappointing. I have lived in Vermont my whole life and people have talked about how great the Equinox was. I was so excited to get a night away with my husband, we were largely let down. There is nothing unique or special about this place. The food in the Marsh tavern was mediocre, definitely not worth the price. Our room was just a room with no redeeming qualities. The servers in the restaurant were sluggish and had no character. We felt like we were inconveniencing them. Would not have felt safe if we weren't vaccinated. They let people sit in the main area with no masks on, come down to get coffee with no masks on. It was really horrifying and definitely not worth it.

Don't Waste Your MoneyI'm somewhat heartened that I'm not the only one giving this place a bad review. Essentially, it's the same as the others. There was no one at the front to give direction or help. I specifically requested a room away from the elevator. I got one that shared a wall with it. The room decor looks like 1995--old and dated. The shower curtain bar was connected at a weird angle and the drop tile ceiling in there gave a very creepy feel. Don't get me going on the noise! Between the heater that sounded like a semi starting every time it went on to the barking dog across the hallway. We want to go to a quiet hotel; if we knew dogs were allowed we wouldn't have come. The service at the Marsh Tavern was slow and unfriendly. The ONLY redeeming quality was that we could get our dinner to go and eat pretty much by ourselves in the tavern. Cannot believe the prices for what you get. The Hampton Inn down the road, honestly, is better.
