Don't read any further . . .Thats right, no need to read more. If you want a first-class hotel situated in the heart of Llandudno, book a room at the Empire. Job done! I first holidayed in the town as a schoolboy when my parents booked a B&B on the outskirts. In the intervening decades I have learned to love the West Shore for its sunsets and panoramic views across to the Menai Straits, and the North Shore for its magnificent promenade, Victorian pier and a town centre still flourishing with specialist local shops and national stores. Of the two ends, the North Shore is my favourite and it is here youll find the Empire Hotel, standing at the foot of the Great Orme and just 100m or so from the pier. After months in lockdown, my 3-night stay was a real tonic. Elyse and her team make you feel special from the moment you check in. Yes, there are Covid restrictions in place but they don't diminish the warmth of the welcome. Face masks aplenty, sanitiser at every turn, but the sumptuous surroundings - giant sofas, marble floors, swagged curtains, bejewelled chandeliers - soon clear the mind of the new normal that the virus has wrought. The Empire is an oasis of calm. My room on the first floor had everything needed: a hospitality tray, a king-size bed, sparkling ensuite, luxury toiletries and the offer of a glass of sherry when I went down to dinner. It also had the biggest bonus of all for me: bright light in every corner, ideal for reading. Some hotels during lockdown have given up on room service but not at the Empire. Each morning as I headed off after breakfast to walk round the Orme (5 miles door to door) Suzie in Housekeeping was there to make the bed, freshen the room and change the towels. She was also an excellent source of local knowledge, cheerfully answering every question. Dinner is the highlight of every hotel stay and at The Empire it is a five-course affair. PJ, my main waiter, always made sure I was well looked after and cutlery, sanitised and wrapped, was brought to the table as needed. Nothing was too much trouble - I have stayed at hotels where to ask for English mustard is a request too many but not here. By the second evening, PJ knew me well enough to bring some to the table. Michael, the Executive Chef, created a fine dining experience. My starter of chicken spring rolls had a good tangy flavour and the chicken pâté was just as enjoyable on the second evening. I passed on the cream soup so that I could do justice to my ribeye steak - delivered exactly as requested, beautifully tender, and served on a piping hot plate. The next night I opted for the baked monkfish medallions with Mediterranean vegetables, bacon and a parmesan crust - a perfect blend of tastes and textures, and yet I still found space for more . . . Pastry chefs Alison and Greg inspired some stunning desserts. The tiramisu, cherry and almond tart, and raspberry cheesecake were tempting, but I went for the sticky toffee pudding and Im glad I did. Dark and rich in colour, light in texture and in a truly wonderful sauce, it was perfectly complemented by a large spoonful of vanilla ice cream. After a good nights sleep, breakfast made a great start for the days activities. I chose a plump grilled kipper on the first morning and then went for a traditional full grill. If you have space for more, there is a lunchtime bar menu and each afternoon a cream tea is available. My fruit scone was served warm with clotted cream and blackcurrant preserve, and (absolutely essential) the pot of tea was boiling hot. Hotels as good as this are rarer than they should be - and I should know, Ive stayed at plenty. Im sure that the Empires success is due to the owners being involved in every aspect of the day-to-day operation, although when I was checking out I discovered another reason. Alice at Reception is married to PJ in the restaurant and both have been at The Empire for years, as have many others in the hotel team. That can only be good news for customers. When staff are happy enough to stay, so am I.

First class hotel . Safety was definitely paramount for Guests, staff. If your looking for a hotel to stay in Llandudno to feel very safe regarding the Cornovirus, look no further than the Empire hotel. This is a family hotel with very high standards.Beautiful decor..I can not fault this hotel in any way or form. Perfect in all ways All the staff have worked extremely hard to put safety as paramount with Covid 19 virus. Where ever you go in the hotel. Masks are required to be worn except sitting in lounge or in dinning room, All the staff wear them throughout the hotel. We used the swimming pool changing in the room and returning to shower in our rooms. No changing rooms, jacuzzi, steam toom, to be used. Dining is a pleasant experience in the empire hotel. All meals waitress service. Your allocated a table each meal. Tables are covered with paper for cleanliness. Removed by waitress when ordering from menu. Thanking the chefs who work very hard all day preparing the delicious food we have each meal time. Most the staff have worked there for years. Very experienced. Making the guest feel at ease Mrs Waddy and her staff have worked extremely hard to make the the guest feel very safe in everyway. Thank you all for a fantastic experience staying two nights on 23rd and 24 th September.felt very safe. Fault less

Wow!Have just returned from a two night stay, dinner, bed and breakfast and Sunday lunch. My family have been coming here for many years and have always raved about it and we can see what they mean. We booked a standard plus room and had a lovely view of the outside pool and seating area. It was very quiet, clean and comfortable. The standard of food was exceptional - four courses and coffee on both Friday and Saturday night with plenty of choices, fabulous breakfasts, again with plenty of choices and a Sunday lunch was included too! The staff are all amazing in these difficult times and nothing was too much trouble. We cannot wait to come back.

Lovely hotelStayed here for our 50th anniversary last weekend. Everything perfect as usual. Food superb, service excellent, staff brilliant. Unfortunately they have had to close for a second time due to COVID, such a shame for the owners and staff.

Amazingly excellent!WE love this hotel and it never disappoints. We recently had a weekend there with dinner bed and breakfast and loved every moment there. The staff are always friendly and professional and its lovely that the hotel is family run. It feels like you are actually a welcome guest in their home. The public rooms and lounges are beautiful, the decor and quality of fittings can't be faulted. Covid rules and advice are adhered to meticulously. In these strange times it felt so good to get away from home and have a relaxing break in beautiful surroundings. We booked a superior room which was lovely with plenty of space to sit and relax. The food is something we especially look forward to. Delicious meals, beautifully presented, good variety of choices and great service. Cant wait to return. Many thanks to everyone there.
