Lovely one night stayThe hotel is right next to the train station which was perfect as we started in Ulverston and stayed in Barrow. Location wise this hotel is about 10 minutes from Ulverston (which is one of my favourite South Cumbrian towns) and probably 20-25 minutes from the Lakes. Barrow itself is a very large Victorian town that has quite a few bars and restaurants. This hotel is great. We stayed in one of the older rooms, so they weren't quite as jazzy as the newer ones I saw on their website but it was still great. What we really liked was the bar and restaurant which has an amazing choice and brill food. Very covid aware and efficient. There's plenty of room here to socially distance.

Great Lakes hotelStayed here with friends for the weekend. The room rate was decent. Had a few problems with the room initially, although these were quickly addressed professionally by Sally from reception. Her customer service was fantastic and did the hotel proud. Rooms have everything you need and beds are very clean and comfortable. Certainly recommend booking directly through the hotel, as you get breakfast included! You wont want to miss the breakfast. Parking is great at the hotel and safe and secure. Overall my friends and I had a great stay! All staff were polite and helpful towards us.

Needs to do better. We decided to take a break in the lake district, and decided to try this hotel. We booked through booking. Com and it said breakfast included. Be careful it's a continental breakfast that's included, £6.50 is charged if you want a cooked one. I decided to have the cooked breakfast on Sunday morning, my wife stayed with the continental, 1st my wife, she went for some cereal, they had only 2 boxes left, my wife asked for something different and was told that they were busy and some would be brought to the table. After 10 minutes waiting she went back through and the cereal had been topped up, just hadn't been brought to her. She then asked for milk, and was told there was none left, that someone was getting some. Eventually she had her cereal however it was terrible service. She was told that the croissants were in the oven, however 20 minutes later another guest was told the same thing. She ended up with coco pops for breakfast. My cooked breakfast arrived 40 minutes after i ordered it. When it arrived it was minus sausage, the bacon was solid, black pudding, I couldn't cut through and an egg totally undercooked. In short breakfast was a disaster. So much so we had ordered dinner later that night, but I cancelled because of the standard of breakfast. After spending the day on lake windermere, we came back to the hotel to find the room not made up or cleaned, by this time my patience with the place had disappeared. We are not difficult people to please, but this was ridiculous. Don't get me wrong, the hotel room was lovely, bathroom, stunning so no problem there. I think the biggest problem is lack of staff, but if you are expected to pay good money for a superior room, then you at least expect good service and food, unfortunately on this occasion it was not the case. I'm afraid the next time I'm in this area, I will be driving past this hotel.

Nice hotel but rubbish service at receptionNice hotel but the check in process was cold and not helpful at all. The receptionist just gave the key, no welcome, no these are breakfast timings etc We booked an executive room...were given a 1st floor room (I asked for a loft room as the photo of it looked nice- they didnt have one available) which I would not class as executive, but it was clean and spacious.....bathroom had a nice walk in shower, loud traffic noise as situated at the front of the hotel even at night. 2nd night I again asked another receptionist if we could change to a loft room..he again was not very helpful...he even asked me which loft rooms were executive....I checked the website and told him. There was a loft room available, the receptionist kindly arranged the transfer of our suitcase to the new room....the loft room I would consider as an executive as it had good character, velux windows (loud rain noise at night), usb points, nice room lights and nice touches like fancy linen basket and chrome sink legs. Continental breakfast was basic Restaurant staff were friendly and helpful Check out again was very cold ....no did you enjoy your stay or hope you visit again Reception staff definately need customer service training/advice I would be happy to provide
