    Excellent

We booked online and paid £75 for a double room and breakfast. If you arrive by car drive through the archway right next to the Dolphin and there is plenty of room to park beyond the outdoor tables. The man, who booked us in, I think he was called Paul, was very friendly and attentive. The room was clean and tidy with a lovely double bed, though the quilt seemed a little narrow, two bedside cabinets, a chair and a chest of drawers. There was also a kettle, supplies to make tea and coffee, and two mugs, both with a pack of three jam rings biscuits in them. The en-suite shower was easy to turn on and quick to warm up. The only criticism is that the TV was small, though there were plenty of FreeView channels available. Breakfast was fantastic. We both had a full English, which included bacon, eggs, sausages beans and tomatoes. By the time wed finished, we were both full. I can happily recommend the Dolphin Hotel at Wincanton.

    Superb service

We didnt stay here we just stopped by to grab a sandwich to take away on route to Devon. I ordered the BLT. It was the nicest Ive had. The chap that made it ( I didnt catch his name) was so pleasant and personable. He looked a kind man. Its so nice to receive great service like this in these times. Well done Dolphin Hotel.

Nice old hotel but disappointing food

A lovely old coaching inn in the centre of Wincanton. Spacious car park but entrance is via a fairly narrow arch. Staff were friendly and welcoming, our room was very spacious with a comfortable bed but very little hanging space for clothes, just a couple of hooks with a few coat hangers. Good tea & coffee making facilities which also included biscuits. Good shower, plenty of hot water but no storage space at all in the bathroom. Our room was at the front and it was very noisy early in the morning, particularly a delivery vehicle around 6am which was there for a considerable time. The other disappointment was the food, menu was very standard pub fare with not much choice of vegetarian or fish. I chose a mushroom & cheese omelette which despite being a generous size and full of mushrooms & cheese did not taste very nice and I left most of it. My husband fared better with ham, eggs & chips and his meat breakfast was also good. Only vegetarian choice for breakfast was eggs, I chose scrambled which were plentiful but overcooked. You help yourself to tea/coffee, cereal, yoghurt and make your own toast as required.

    Restaurant

Ordered two steaks ( one medium well and well done) both came back rare. Took one back was taken off the bill, offered a free ice cream and when I got it, there was a long hair in it. Not offered any further discount. Awful

    Great location

Lovely 18th-century inn, perfect stop for visiting the surrounding area. Staff were attentive and friendly, couldn't do enough for you, and the full English breakfast was amazing, enough to keep you going for the whole day.
