  Filthy Hotel

  This hotel is absolutely filthy - why haven't the owners cleaned it up. The shower is disgusting and everywhere'so untidy - UGH! I'M I SURPRISED IT'S STILL IN BUSINESS! I cannot think of anything positive which is true to say about it!

  Phoned to check that the Inn were still taking dogs, and Richard was most helpful about the price.Having read some of the earlier reviews and seen some of the pictures I was a bit concerned, but was heartened to see one of the last pictures of a gleaming bathroom. I had the single room, which was big enough for a decent sized single bed, with room at the foot of the bed for a large chest of drawers, with a tray on the chest with loads of Tea bags and coffee sachets and milk pods. Also Drinking Chocolate sachet, and a pack of custard creams. There was a wall mounted TV. Bathroom was ensuite small but very perfectly formed, and shining with newness, water for shower was hot. The room was decorated beautifully with nice new carpet and curtains. The heater in the room was very efficient, and the window opened for the blast of fresh air when needed. Breakfast could consist of Cereals, Toast with butter and Jam/marmite. Fried breakfast with Bacon, sausage, fried egg, Tomato, Mushrooms, Hash Brown. The Bar area, where breakfast was eaten, was also tastefully decorated, lots of beams and a log burner. Jazz my dog was made most welcome, and the Beer garden which was quite extensive, made an ideal area to play, and as it was all walled or fenced off gave the added security of safety. Richard took over the ownership of the pub, from a consortium not interested in paying out money to update thing, he has made an excellent job of it. He admits there is still things to do, now looking at the outside and the Beer Garden. There is a small carpark to the rear. Would I go back, oh yes most certainly.

  We stayed in a family room which was comfortable with crisp bedding and a good shower. The cooked breakfast was great quality, beautifully prepared. Richard was a helpful, welcoming host and we were able to leave our car in the car park and walk into Halstead.

  Nice pub, dog friendly, BEER GARDEN

  A lovely pub just behind the high street. It is dog friendly and the selection of beers are very good. The beer garden is huge and is great for sunny days. i would suggest that the steps leading to the garden would need doing but not somethign that would deter me away from it. During these pandemic times, you have to check in by texting the number at the bar and tell them your full name. Highly recommend!
