Outstanding weekend awayValue for money we went on a Shearing 3 night self drive was outstanding. The staff, the hotel and food was wonderful it was a fab trip away. Yes its not perfect but for the money it was 5 star. Very impressed it was a wonderful trip away with my elderly parents we felt safe and had a delightful few days.

Mostly niceSloppy signposting (and appalling weather) made our arrival tricky, but once inside the surroundings were pleasant, reception worked efficiently, and the rooms were clean and comfortable, if a little tired round the edges. In a lovely location, we were cursed with torrential rain, and wanted to eat in-house, so having booked a table, we moved to the almost-empty bar where the signs said "take a seat - table service only", which we did - but no-one came. After waiting a while, we asked at reception what was going on, and we were told we had to go to the restaurant and actually order a meal, at which point we would be allowed drinks - so in effect, the bar was closed. Even allowing for virus constraints, this seemed somewhere between bizarre and lazy. We cancelled our booking and walked to the pub round the corner, where the attitude was a lot more welcoming, the food nice (and a lot cheaper) and a socially-distanced good time was had by all. The hotel is OK, with an outstanding breakfast, but the dinner experience put us off. I doubt we'll be back, even though it was relatively cheap...

Wont be returningStayed at this hotel with my husband and dog for one night and it wasnt the best. Would consider spending a bit more money next time and going somewhere nicer - Check in promised for 3pm but late. Staff werent attentive and had to keep asking when we could check in after we waited in the lobby after a long walk! - Paper thin walls. You cant only hear doors slamming around you, but peoples conversations either in the rooms next to you, above or below you. - Uncomfortable beds. Never normally one to complain about a hotel, let alone a bed, but this was horrific especially after a long walk! - Staff didnt even know the room service menu. Asked for a couple of things on the menu, which staff didnt even know existed. Not to mention the food was way over priced and VERY basic. Example, tuna melt panini with side of crisps was £12.95... - No dog cleaning facilities. Considering the location of the hotel was near Derwentwater and dog friendly, theres nothing to clean your dog down with after a muddy walk! - No temperature control in the rooms. Well, certainly not in ours. Far too warm. - Room phones werent synced to a reception speed dial. Had to use our mobiles to call down to reception if we needed something, despite there being a phone to use in the room. Location was the only good thing about this place.

a must readbe warned the interior pictures are NOTHING Like what the actual Hotel looks like now ! Stayed for 1 night - no hot water, even though it was reported around 5pm on the day of arrival, still nothing at 9.30am next day, apparently no one was available to fix it ? Carpets and ceilings heavily stained. Old 1990'sfurniture. Stayed in 'deluxe' room which had the bath panel split in half, extractor fan half hanging out of the ceiling, hot tap just spinning around (not secured in situ) Phone in room not connecting to reception. Toilet not flushing and all carpets throughout Hotel grubby and, in parts, thread bare.... need i go on ?
