  Lunch

  Called in for lunch, sausage egg and chips for me, mushroom risotto for the one who must be obeyed. Very ordinary pub food but cooked very well, chips were as good as youll get anywhere. We both enjoyed our meals and the well kept beer. Staff were friendly and efficient. Only downside is the place is a little tired and could do with a bit of a makeover. Will return again when we pick up the dog.

  A pleasant stay in gorgeous surroundings

  Having had to delay our stay due to Covid it was great to get away into such splendid countryside blessed with good weather and had some grand walks. Our experience was surprisingly good right from the start as we were greeted by friendly staff. Room clean, and functional with perhaps a slightly compact shower room but all absolutely fine. Over our comfortable two night stay we enjoyed evening meals which were extremely tasty and plentiful as were the breakfasts and all served by friendly helpful staff all masked and tables regularly cleaned. Would have no hesitation in staying there again.

  Great Local Pub

  Stayed here in our motorhome in the carpark, really surprised how welcoming and friendly the staff were. Great advice on walks etc. Had dinner in the evening, both meals were excellent also the full english breakfast had the same standard. We'll definitely return...

  Beautiful pub

  We called in for lunch on the way across from the M6 to the North East and were very impressed. Lovely and clean, good covid procedures in place and a very welcoming host. We both had Cumberland sausage with red wine casserole jus and it was yummy! The pub is beautifully maintained and decorated and there's a log fire when you first walk in. We ate in the restaurant with a beautiful view overlooking the gardens and fells. It was quiet so very easy to keep a safe distance. We would like to come back to stay as the accommodation looks lovely. Highly recommended.

  Lunch stop

  We stopped here on the way up to Fife for a holiday. We took the dog in, she had a bowl of water and the owner gave her a biscuit. Hand sanitiser and tack and trace both in operation. Nicely spaced tables and roaring fire which was lovely on a drizzly day. I chose the creamy garlic mushrooms with garlic bread with a bowl of chips and my hubby chose the lamb burger with chips. Mushrooms were gorgeous. I enjoyed mopping up the sauce with the chips. Husband enjoyed his lamb burger too. Tzatziki was delicious. Would highly recommend. Clean and modern toilets too.
