    Always wanted to stay here.

I got the last room available. The Fort Scott "Good Old Days" celebration was in full swing. The owner checked me in and gave a short history of the hotel when he showed me to my room. The room was quite small but had everything I needed. Everything was clean and tidy. The bed was comfy with good sheets and pillows. The window overlooked the street with a view of the historic buildings downtown. The lobby and sitting areas were tastefully furnished with period furniture and photographs of the old hotel and of old Fort Scott. The continental breakfast was simple but delicious.

    Historical comfort

My husband and I stayed at the Courtland Hotel whin attending the Tumbleweed Music Festival. I like to try something different when traveling and this hotel did not disappoint. The history of the building has been preserved while updating things to provide comfort. Frank was very helpful, allowing an early check-in and giving us a brief history of the premises. The room was clean and large with a comfortable bed and quality a/c. I would highly recommend this property.

    It all depends...

Do you appreciate historic--then this is the place. Do you like plain yogurt--unfortunately all the yogurts and cereal choices are sugared (seems like the American way). Can you walk up 25 stairs--if not, don't stay here? Are you obese--the bathrooms are small. Do you smile when the floor creaks--come on in. Is a comfortable bed at the top of the list--twin beds in Room 9 are wonderful! Are you often exasperated trying to figure out how the hotel shower works--the drawings in the shower really are appreciated. Do you play the piano-there is one in the hotel foyer. We live in a 121-year-old house so this 1906 hotel makes us feel right at home each time we visit...

    Great experience

I just returned from a two-night stay at the Courtland Hotel. My room - number 8 - checked all the boxes I'd expect: clean room, comfortable bed, excellent water pressure in the shower. The free wi-fi works well. Again, every expectation I have, wherever I stay, was met by the Courtland. But there's much more that commends the Courtland. The ambiance is wonderful - we can't go back to 1906 when the hotel was built, but the Courtland has an authentic period feel to it that matches historic Fort Scott. It really is a well-restored, intriguing property. And the hotel is within easy, easy walking distance of restaurants, a coffee house, retail shops (including a couple of bookstores and several antique stores), a museum, and the national historic site. There's a day spa on site - I didn't try it, but that'll be my hook for getting my better half to go back with me! Perhaps best of all is one of the owners, Frank. If you don't take the time to chat with him about his hotel and local history, you really are missing out. He couldn't be more accommodating. I highly recommend the Courtland.

    Great stay!

The Courtland is lovely, and well renovated with modern amenities. We were traveling with family. Frank welcomed us for check-in and thoughtfully upgraded one of our rooms so we could be closer to each other. He was very pleasant and helpful. We slept well, beds good, bathrooms well appointed, good AC, quiet. I really wish we had more than one night so we could enjoy the hotel and all that Fort Scott has to offer. Hope to be back. Thanks, Frank.
