Bad VibePros: Good location, clean rooms. Cons: 1. Staff speak little English and appear to understand even less (the difference between a twin and double room, for example). 2. Staff keen to extract as much money from you as possible. We had to pay extra to be accommodated in rooms next to each other (+ $5 for the balcony room), and the receptionist openly admitted the cut of the money that he would receive for organising a tuk-tuk (i.e. not much incentive for him to get us a good price). 3. Despite the implied business association, the Bright Lotus restaurant does not allow guests of the Bright Lotus accommodation to sit on its chairs outside the hotel unless they are spending money there. 3. Multiple lone, white, middle-aged men appear to frequent the accommodation and associated restaurant downstairs. Many were observed on different occasions in the company of Cambodian girls. 4. One of these men woke my friends up at 4am by turning his TV on very loud in the room next to theirs. They knocked on his door to ask him to turn it down, happening to arrive at the same time as the receptionist who had also been woken by the noise. The next day he confronted us to ask why they had done this, and appeared to be very agitated that they were going to call the police. As we hadnt mentioned the police we were bemused by his concern. 5. Very noisy at night. All of the accommodation we since booked in Cambodia we ensured complied with Child Safe assurances.

Don't stay hereThere was just somethingoff about this place. I mean, the location is fantastic and its super cheap, and the rooms are big, but we just couldnt wait to leave. The cleanliness left a little to be desired - we had a small ant infestation in our room - but when we mentioned it to staff they moved us to a different, cleaner room. So far so acceptable. At night time, everything is different. Firstly, it is located on a busy crossroads, where tuk tuk drivers regularly ply for trade and, when night falls, go to sleep. If you return to the guesthouse after 9pm (they dont stay up late!) you will therefore find yourself stepping over numerous (perhaps 10) bodies in sleeping bags on the pavement outside the front door. You will then have to climb over the cot bed in the tiny foyer where the night receptionist sleeps. Then, depending on your floor youll have to climb over the makeshift beds of other members of staff before reaching your own room. Inevitably it will be stinking hot as they flip the fuse to your room when you leave, meaning the air con wont have been on, nor will your electrical items have charged. But all of this would still be just about bearable were it not for the, well, strange, clientele. Its the kind of place that attracts a certain kind of older, white, single male with strange nocturnal habits... some of which may well keep you up at night (since the walls are so thin). We saw no concrete evidence of illegal activity but we did observe some questionable interactions between very young-looking Cambodian girls and at least one of the guests. This guesthouse does not promote Child Safe policies that most other reputable establishments in Cambodia do. Dont stay here. There are much nicer places nearby that are just as cheap. We moved after 2 nights to Scodo. It was great - go there instead!

Sleepless NightsLet me be honest, this hotel is in a great location, right in the heart of Phnom Penh and a very short walk to the riverside. Unfortunately loud noise is now a major problem if you decide to stay here. The noise comes from 3 different locations nearby. 1. The hotel is right next to a major road junction where taxi's / tuk tuk drivers stop close by, 2. At night a new 4 storey bar/disco just across the road blares out loud music all evening. 3. An old building next door that is sometimes used to hold rock concerts all day long. This will be the last time I stay here.

Great place near waterfront, bars, massage, 50cent beer places.I took the 2nd story end room with a balcony, only downside is that they do not make it clear that the balcony is for the end room and not to be shared so you will get uninvited guests. Great wifi, a/c, private bath. It is noisy in this area no matter where you stay. Great staff. Can arrange tours, transport etc. Great bargain.

I was most comfortable and felt welcomedThe Bright Lotus Guesthouse , Riverside, Phnom Penh. I was very comfortable in my top floor room. It's a large en suite twin bedroom . Satellite TV, kettle, fridge and desk. Free 2x bottle water too. Hot water shower, AC and/or fan. I highly recommend. Sam and his wife are very friendly, helpful and informative too.
