Single night stayThis is a unique establishment, with some lovely old features in the main building. The self catering apartments, in which we stayed, are very spacious and practical and clean. Couple of niggles for me being that we had a standard double bed which we now find just too small for a good night sleep. Also, shower curtain in the cubicle which I am not a fan of as its quite a small shower. Other than that, its a great base for exploring the area. I did not like the fact that the front door was locked when we arrived and we had to ring the bell, makes you feel like a nuisance. The car park for the accommodation is a little awkward if you choose the gated area at the back.Fine at the main car park however. The owner is a nice guy, but comes across as distant initially and you have to drag conversation and information out of him a bit. It became apparent that this is his way and he clearly works hard. The small pub he runs in the evening is a pleasant way to pass the evening and he cooked us a very nice breakfast at very reasonable rates. All in all a positive stay and I award five stars as its also very reasonably priced.

A great one week stay for the Ebor racing festival.Very nice cottage (1) with everything supplied which is a refreshing change. Those added touches make a big difference especially when after travelling for ages you can relax with a cup of tea'. A huge thanks to Stuart and Lily who despite being mega busy were very supportive of the solo traveller assisting with travel to the racecourse.. I didn't feel at all out of place in a bar full of guys who were very sociable and friendly so a big thanks to everyone for a great week. I hope to return in the future.

DisappointingWe found on arrival that our double room booking was for only one person Wed been sent an email but only recieved once we got onto Email at the property as it was sent on a checkin day to say only 1 person booked We were told its an extra 20 pound per night thats 40p as there 2 nights Expensive for us As well as its happened before which was no assurance at all So were werent happy then we found out they dont do meals as we booked pubs for 2 reasons breakfast & evening meals as wed be travelling seeing sights during the day On a positive note we were able to do our washing & it was a nice room Although some maintenance required So maybe you see why we werent so satisfied

Nothing was too much trouble for our hostsWe stayed at the Thompsons arms last week for a wedding at a nearby venue. The host Stuart was extremely helpful and accommodating he even taxied us to and from the venue(Brilliant) Our room/chalet was cosy with all the Amenities we needed.Car parking was safe and secure. The pub had a roaring fire and a piano which we fired upon our return with our host joining in. Great location fab venue extremely accommodating hosts would definitely stay again

Fantastic FindWhat a fantastic find this was. Gated private courtyard, parking, with table and chairs outside. There's absolutely everything you could need for your stay. The bed was really comfortable. Friendly host. Will be booking again.
