Sunday lunchServed almost cold. Asked to have it heated Only three tables occupied in restaurant, nearest couple said their meal was only just warm they would have liked theirs to have been served hot. Very disappointing!

Relaxing breakStayed for a 3 night winter special with breakfast and evening meal included. Very quirky hotel. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast were very good, but the evening meals were all amazing. Fantastic quality and very well presented. Definitely enjoyed our break

Wonderful place for a mealWhat a superb lunch yesterday, at The Black Swan, Helmsley. We were made very welcome by the staff there, and we noted that all safety procedures were in place and strictly monitored. The ground floor of this lovely hotel was beautifully decorated; and in the lounge, the comfy chairs placed near the cracklings fire...well, it was Christmas picture perfect, and too much to resist The menu was extremely varied and we were truly poilt for choice; enjoyed some good coffee whilst we were perusing the menu; we eventually decided on the Game Pie, which was served with mashed potato and peas. What a delicious dish that was; beautifu lgolden pasty ( no soggy bottom here!)with plenty of tender perfectly seasoned meat in a tasty sauce.!The mashed potato was creamy and flavoursome, and the peas, which hadn't been overcooked, were at their best. Although fairly full after that main course, I couldn't resist the Lemon Soufflé with Raspberries, Ice cream and Chocolate soil. Happy to wait and digest the main course whilst this dessert was prepared and cooked. So worth waiting for; I can't remember when I've tasted a soufflé as delightful as this. Thank you, thank you, thank you, to all the talented chefs in the kitchen team, your skills were very much enjoyed and appreciated. With such a warm welcome from the front of house hosts, and th excellent food on offer, we can't wait to return very soon. Already planning our next visit! If you are looking for some festive cheer, a visit to Helmsley is sure to lift your spirits, so why not treat yourself to a Merry Little Christmas at The Black Swan.

Birthday celebrationWe have stayed many times at the Black Swan in Helmsley for my birthday it's like the start to Christmas. What a disappointment. We understand covid rules have made it difficult, but taking that into consideration it was still disappointing. The menu considering the price was more like pub food and very ordinary, the breakfast just did not compare to the previous visits. For me it was very expensive. The drinks were ridiculously priced The Black Swan was a let down. Will not be going back!!!

Relaxing breakWe had a lovely 3 night winter special stay at the Black Swan in mid December. We enjoyed the cooked breakfast every morning and looked forward to sitting in the bar area for our great evening meals. Staff were all very helpful and friendly. A very dog friendly hotel. Plenty of parking and a great central location in Helmsley. The hotel was looking a little worn but we believe a refurbishment is planned for early 2021. We would happily stay here again.
