Friendly staff, but sadly tired in placesSpent 3 nights here for a short break. Old coaching Inn, parking is 2 minutes walk away & will cost you £2.30 per day, excluding Sunday when it is free. Let's start with the good bits, everybody we met were very pleasant and helpful - especially in these difficult times. Breakfasts on the first 2 days were really good, think the chef must have had a day off in the 3rd day as it went badly downhill - 2 items were completely forgotten, and the Toast" was simply warm bread! The room was OK, to be honest the bed has seen better days and if you are at the front of the Hotel expect traffic to wake you up early. TV was very small and signal was iffy, even for BBC1....not sure the room is worth £120 per night, but I guess that is the going rate. Saxmundham is a "base" to go to other places like Aldburgh/Southwold/Beccles etc - apart from Waitrose and Tesco there is nothing. Sadly the Wednesday market only consisted of a fruit stall, a fish van, and a guy selling pick and mix sweets from plastic tubs - sad times indeed. All in all the Hotel is OK, the friendly staff make it what it is - and having 2 supermarkets nearby could be a big plus for some people. Didn't have evening meals here so can't comment, other residents did mention that the food was good though.

Great short breakRecently visited this hotel for a two night break. Lovely large room with a comfortable bed and nicely furnished. The room was immaculately clean as was the rest of the hotel. Probably the best cooked breakfast I have ever had in a hotel, equally good evening meal. Special mention for the staff, everyone we dealt with was friendly and helpful. Excellent break in a nice town.

Disappointed after years of great food and serviceCould not be more disappointed. Have been coming here for years because of great service and food. This recent visit: service was virtually non existent and food was not great at all. Main course cold; steak tough; linguini had very little fish; sweet was over microwaved. Menu seemed far more basic that before and staff more interested in sorting cutlery than serving. Guests were waiting far too long with empty plates and we nearly gave up with sweet as had to wait so long to get attention of staff. The biggest disappointment was the food though - it seems to have moved from unique and fine cooking to basic pub food which can be hit and miss in terms of quality instead of the perfection it has been in the past.

Great new menu, very helpful staffA lovely stay in a classic old inn, just before lockdown 2.0. In a village near to many places of interest, even if a bit limited itself. Family room very spacious with proper truckle beds added for the kids. Great menu, not fussy or lengthy and generous breakfast. Bathroom floor could have been cleaner, couldn't work out how to use Netflix included on tv, family room above bar so probably bit noisy in normal times (10pm closure helped us!). Staff always ready and available to help. Parking off site but very nearby.

Good all roundWe stayed one night in half term, bringing our two young children. We stayed in a super sized family room which was more than enough size for us all. The beds were really comfy, the curtains good and dark (makes a difference with young children) and the bathroom was light and clean. The food was delicious. We had dinner there the night we arrived. Staff were friendly and polite. Food came in good time and was enjoyed by us all. Breakfast the following morning was fantastic too. I had the full English, my wife had an egg and salmon poached thing and the kids had toast and fruit. Happy all round. The staff worked really hard with the restrictions in place due to the pandemic to make the place welcoming and safe.
