    Great inn

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Bear. We enjoyed two delicious meals and two comfortable nights in their best suite (after a complimentary upgrade)! Would definitely recommend this place for a stay or for their food which is very high quality and big portions! The staff here are extremely friendly and attentive. Thanks for a great stay!

    Lovely Stay

Myself and my husband stayed for a mini weekend away for 1 night. All the staff were absolutely brilliant, very friendly and helpful. Service was excellent. We had a room on Bear Island with a balcony and a view of the garden and River Dun which was very nice. The room was spotless. We paid £109 for bed, breakfast and dinner which was great value. The food was really good especially breakfast. Would definitely recommend and would definitely stay again. Thank you to all at The Bear.

    A fabulous hotel and pub

This is a really great hotel. Excellent accommodation, room 9 was a fab room. The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. The COVID-19 plans were very good and well executed. There is an extensive bar menu and the food was excellent. All in all a great venue. I would definitely recommend. Lovely local walks, Salisbury is a great nearby city worth a visit too.

    Fantastic Stay

Stayed at the Bear for 2 nights and was the perfect uk getaway, very relaxing with local walks along the nearby canal. Booked the Bridal suit and another suite with balcony and have no regrets, amazing roll top bath in the bridal suit with beautiful view of the garden "bear island". All staff very welcoming and friendly and certainly add to the experience. The whole place very clean and covid safe with social distancing, hand sanitizing, one way system and very attentive staff for table service in the bar/ restaurant. Meals very good with lots of options for vegetarian, vegan and gluten free. I would reccomend booking b&b as the breakfast is fab. Will definitely be back without a doubt. Thank you to all the staff for making this break away better than anticipated.

An Excellent 3 Night Stay During Difficult Times

We wanted a short winter break having had a number cancelled during the year and although we only live 35 miles away we had never been to Hungerford. Checking in was easy and we were allocated room 3 (Anne of Cleeves), recently renovated, comfortable and spacious. Only 3 rooms were occupied during our stay and we were the only table for breakfast each morning, a sign of the devastation wreaked upon the hospitality trade. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. We had an excellent Sunday roast dinner with a bottle of wine in a fairly quiet restaurant. Breakfast was cooked to order and efficiently served by what was almost our personal chef and waitress due to the dearth of guests. Plenty of parking and well organised regime in the hotel to cope with current regulations. A big thank you to the entire team and we are so sorry to know that you will now be closed due to the Tier 4 regime, you really don't deserve such a dreadful time. Only niggles I would have is that the maximum temperature in the otherwise excellent shower could have been a bit hotter and the bedside lights would benefit from some flexibility to help us oldies direct the light when reading. Nothing which would detract from my 5 star rating for this well run and ancient hostelry. We left having had a wonderful mid winter break with the usual Greene King value for money!
