    Bar Lunch

A really stunning old building, full of character. Easy to imagine a couple of hundred years ago, the mail horses pulling in and resting up for the night before an inward journey to Bristol or Gloucester. Sadly thats as good as it got. The bar menu was tired and uninspiring so I chose the burger and chips because I thought that for £16.50 a pop it really must be something special. How wrong could I be. What I got was oven chips and a beef patè that looked and tasted like it had been pre-cooked and heated up to order. I should have trusted my instincts when the waiter told me I didnt have a choice as to how the beef patè was cooked. Verdict: lovely venue, efficient staff, shockingly poor quality food for the price.

    Not Worth The Price

A really disappointing stay at the Bear, could have been a great experience but was let down by the sorry state of the room. We booked through Booking.com and the pictures of the room looked lovely, what we actually got was far from what was advertised. For £140 for a night you wouldnt expect the state of the room, we brought it up with the receptionist on departure and her reply left us even more disappointed. Its such a shame as all the bar and waiting staff were so lovely and the breakfast was amazing. Unfortunately we wont be returning.

    Last minute stay

The hotel was full of character and combined with it's warm and friendly staff, it was a lovely exerience. The rooms and facilities are nicely decorated and very comfortable. The food was great! A great spot for cycling the canal and exploring the local area. Well worth a visit!!

    Lovely hotel and bar

Booked the bear due to being dog friendly and having parking, we had a external room no 15 and was lucky enough to park right outside, room was great with lovely shower and all other commodities, bar is very nice and great selection of ales, great menu and the food was exceptional, and the staff were very friendly, we were struggling to find a angling shop in the area and Tobby one of the staff even offered to go to the nearest one which was a 20 minute drive away on his way home, which we said was not necessary but greatly appreciated the offer, Joe one of the other bar staff was also very friendly and helpful, in fact all the staff and locals made us very welcome, Thank you all for a wonderful 2 night stay

    Brilliant

Another fabulous meal in The Bear. Been a fair few times and it never disappoints. The menu is slightly reduced because of covid but there are still specials so you wont find that there isnt anything you dont want to eat. The staff are great and you do feel covid safe when in there. Hand gel stations etc are always present. Just make sure you book to get a table because as with all places currently they are not able to take as many people as normal
