Appalling service. Would not recommend to anybody.Booked an event room for a friends surprise baby shower. When booking, staff seemed really on it and helpful. Arrived on the day to find the room wed booked had been given to another event, wed been put into the library and set up for a buffet - not what we booked and not appropriate to the event. We were offered a different room which we took up. We asked for it to be set up how we had been told the original room would be to which the girls on shift at the time agreed. However the hotel was short staffed for the number of events on this day and we didnt get far with setting up. Myself and my friend had to set up the room mostly ourselves and no one seemed too bothered about helping us - very slow service. We had to ask for everything more than once and had to wait an awful long time to get anything. We had booked afternoon tea for our event but the staff working there were not aware of this and the correct food had not been ordered in for us apparently. Even the time theyd got for any food to come out was down as an hour before our guests were even due to arrive! The chef was very helpful however and in the end he rustled up a wonderful afternoon tea that was presented nicely. Only good thing about the day was the food although very few sandwiches but a lot of cake. Tea and coffee was not brought out with food despite us asking 3 times. We were refused tea pots for the table and the lack of beverages and extremely poor service by the waiting staff spoilt the guests experiences considerably. Some guests also noticed that tea cups and the cake stands were far from clean - a thick layer of dust sat on top of the cake stands which the manager apologised for after. The manager was apparently called in the morning but he didnt bother turning up until 3 hours after and when he did he did not seek us out to apologise but waited for us to find him to complain. When we did he made some effort to up the service given to us. As soon as our complaint was made surprise surprise they suddenly had tea pots for the tables and more cake was brought out on plates rather than dusty cake stands. During the afternoon NO ONE checked in on us despite our experience and no effort was made to clear empty glasses or plates. Guests from our baby shower made a point to clear these themselves and ran around getting extra tea and milk as we were provided with next to nothing. After our event the manager did refund us half of our money and gifted us with a voucher for afternoon tea for 4 so that we can see how its usually done. He admitted that a lack of communication and staff had resulted in our poor experience. I would NEVER recommend this venue for an event of any kind as our experience was a shambles from start to finish. The service was appalling. What should have been a wonderful day was extremely stressful and the lack of attention given after so much had gone wrong is unforgivable.

Comfortable and everyone triedWe stopped as part of a wedding and found it lovely, whole presentation was scenic, and staff were busy, but very pleasant and really tried hard, our room was great and warm , bed comfortable, the food was excellent and had great flavour , especially the turkey, could not fault really, its not top end , but authentic and serviceable

Sunday lunchMy friend had a roast for her lunch. The potatoes were quite hard to cut. The dining area with the fireplace seated around 16 people according to chairs and tables in the room. A family of four was already in there along with my family. Unfortunately another family of four came along and sat near the fireplace. They wasnt asked to move. In covid times this room was overcrowded. The families were less than 2 metres from each other. Instead we moved to a draughty dining room. There should have been measures in place to limit numbers of customers for their dining rooms. The positive of dining out at the hotel was the staff were friendly and polite.

Not up to scratchHaving stayed several times at this hotel, We were very disappointed with our recent stay (Thurs 15th Oct). We were given room 112. Noticed there was only one mug for drinks, tea, coffee, etc included This was packaged in plastic bag, due to Covid measures. We went downstairs for a meal. On returning to room I noticed mug was not very clean on the outside so went into bathroom to wash it. There was no hot water even though the immersion switch was on, there was also no shower head, presumably broken or stolen. We were not informed of this. I went to reception and asked for another room. The pleasant receptionist checked what I said was wrong and moved us to 202. This was an upgrade and a very nice four poster bedded room. Again only 1 mug for drinks. We got ready for bed and found there was no remote control for tv, we could use tv manually. Going into bathroom there were no toiletries, fortunately we had our own. We were very disappointed and mentioned it on checkout. We were told that one cup per room was government guidelines, surely that should be one cup per person if there were 2 staying. I know times are strange at the moment but comfort of guests should be paramount. Hopefully we will fare better next time we wish to use the hotel.

A change to working from homeI have been working from home for a few months now, due to the pandemic, so decided on a change of scenery . I've worked remotely from the Red Lion before, for a few of reasons, it's the local, in my opinion the only decent place to do so in Atherstone, and the staff are always brilliant. I spent the day in the cafe Roma seating area, great Wifi, good supply of tea and the area was quiet enough to work in. I had lunch as well, which was off the £5 lunch meal, American burger and chips, which was excellent. The staff were great as usual, and under the current circumstances they are doing an outstanding job. Will be back in next week!
