    Stuck

I have always heard about the Alluvian and the Viking Cooking School so this weekend we took a trip to Greenwood to check it out. The staff is fantastic - friendly, old-school, casual, and a little cheeky. The lobby is beautiful and the adjoining restaurant is first-rate. However, it's time to update the overall look and feel. The Alluvian feels like it's stuck in time - somewhere in the 90s. The room was nice but the lime green and purple palette was dated and showing wear and tear. The bed was uncomfortable, the pillows were uneven - some fluffy and some firm, the furniture was scuffed and scratched. The famed Alluvian Spa prices are outrageous - I had hoped to enjoy at least one treatment but was shocked to find just how expensive a basic massage was. Needless to say, the spa was empty. I'm glad I went but won't go back until the hotel is updated.

    Traditional Hotel with Modern Touches

We stayed here in mid March just as the Corona Virus was ramping up. It was one of our last stops before heading home, which at the time, we didn't realize would be our last trip for who knows how long? I thought the hotel was very nice. It has a traditional feeling but has been modernized and updated. The original building was the Hotel Irving that had been closed for years but was completely renovated by the Viking Stove company to accommodate visitors to their cooking school, located across the street. Some years later the hotel was opened to all guests, regardless of whether you were attending the cooking school. We did not eat at the restaurant or visit the spa, but the hotel itself was luxurious, a little bit funky -- a comfortable purple chenille arm chair with footstool in our room, and gorgeous black and white photography of delta scenes in the rooms and hallways. We were there on a rainy evening, but there is a lovely flagstone courtyard in the back of the hotel with a fountain that looks like a great place for dinner or drinks when the weather cooperates. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. The gym was small but had what you needed. I would say that there wasn't enough attention to taking care of the gym -- they were completely out of water. The hotel has complimentary parking directly behind the hotel -- very convenient. They also offer complimentary car service if you would like to be driven to a near by restaurant. We used this service to go to Lusco's -- which was about 10 minutes away -- and a car was ready to take us right when we requested it. Breakfast was on an upper floor and included a buffet as well as the ability to order eggs and other hot breakfast items. The Alluvian stands out from much of Greenwood, but if you want a comfortable boutique experience then this is the place to stay.

    Very OVER RATED!

A boutique hotel? Hardly! The location was good and the room was clean. The service was poor. The staff could use some training, does not communicate well and are not very welcoming. For the complimentary breakfast I advise arriving early and be ready to wait...for a mediocre meal. I was in Greenwood for an event and the Alluvian was awkwardly empty. There is a bar, and a restaurant in the building but front desk couldnt answer questions as they are separate from the hotel. My Old Fashion was $12. There is a very pretty New Orleans style courtyard. I did like that checkout was at noon. Considering the value for what you pay, I will not stay here again.

    Pleasant and Quiet

The Alluvian is a lovely hotel with comfortable bedding and beautiful marble bathrooms. Our breakfast was included, and, due to the pandemic, cooked to order instead of their usual buffet. Food was very good. It is pretty expensive for the area and Im not sure why they dont offer military, AARP, AAA, etc discounts. Otherwise, very pleasant.

Not all staff are wearing masks, we got double charged for our stay and can't get help correcting their error

Not safe I would not stay here again because the hostess staff in restaurant were wearing their mask well below their nose all 4 days I stayed at this hotel. We booked our hotel room checking in Wednesday because we knew we would arrive Thursday 9am and wanted the room for our very early arrival, my boyfriend told the staff this 3 times - we get there Thursday morning and they had canceled our whole reservation. I gave my MC credit card when we checked in and the receptionist said that was just a hold, and my boyfriend paid in full with his Amex when we departed 3 days later BUT the hotel staff charged us both! So that was not a hold they charge me the full price for 3 days as we checked in and my boyfriend for the same 3 nights when we checked out!! He has called 3 days in a row, was transferred to the billing department leaving a message and no response - so I will tell my credit company to decline their charge. Some of the staff are lovely, especially the door men are very sweet however some of these staff need proper training, and I don't think it is safe to stay at this hotel until the staff wear their masks covering their nose and mouth. I've been a guest of this hotel for 4 years but no more :(
