If you don't mind dark and freezing...

I booked ahead a room for the night. Arrived to find hotel was completely dark and looked closed for season. Had to use a call box by the door, using my phone torch to see, in order to speak to the desk clerk, who asked me what room I was in. "I don't know, I've just arrived." He buzzed me in, asked my name, handed me a key, and turned to go back to his office. I wandered upstairs, and found my room, completely freezing and with no working lights. The clerk had disappeared; I had to go back outside and use the call box again. We met again at the desk, and he (only then) informed me I had to insert the key chain fob in a slot in order to get the lights to work. I then had to go through similar process to complain about the internet not working, and the room took at hour or more to get above meat-locker temperatures. The manager's response to my comment that this wasn't a very nice arrangement? "Morning will come soon enough."

    Extremely puzzling - bizarre

I'd like to be giving a good review to this place but I don't have the opportunity. Months ago, I approached the hotel in order to host our charity bike ride as we headed north to Glasgow. The manager said that would be brilliant and even offered to contribute something when we stopped there. I tried to confirm by email in May, and got a reply that details could be sorted nearer the time. So in late June, we phoned to firm up on details. We were told that the owner was on holiday but would be back at the end of the week. When we phoned back, there was no answer on countless occasions and the email address was no longer recognised. We drove up to the place in the middle of the day midweek in July to find the place completely locked and no indication as to why. Fortunately the village store across the road came to our rescue for our 20 cyclists. It seemed quite disrespectful to just shut up shop with no explanation, when we'd made every effort to plan in advance and give the place some business. Avoid. A booking here seems to be Russian roulette as to whether it'll actually be open when you get there!

    It wasn't open

Only went there for a meal, their website made it look worth visit for meal as we traveled south. Turned up at 7.00pm on a Friday night in July - we did 'phone but no answer - to find it all closed. Visited shop/cafe opposite to find out if hotel had closed unexpectedly to be told it only opens for bus tours owned by owner of the hotel. Lady in shop said this happened a lot, in fact someone had called in as they had booked a room and received confirmation. When they turned up the hotel was closed, so owner of shop had to find them b&b for night. So as the hotel appears to keep strange opening hours, we were not impressed.

    Strange and disappointing.

We were visiting/passing through Abington late morning and noticed a number of people eating in the dining area. The hotel looked decent so when we were passing back through a couple of hours later we stopped to have lunch. The doors were locked. The thing we found strange was that there was a woman who looked as though she may have been a receptionist standing beside the car park looking at us trying to get in and she never said a word to us. She watched us get back into the car and drive right down the road! We left hungry and disappointed and had to drive for another while before we found somewhere else. We'll give it a miss in future.
