  Nice owners & good for a stopover

  Stayed here for a night on our way back to Tennant Creek from Darwin. It's not quite halfway (closer to Darwin than Tennant) but a good spot to break up the trip. Our room was fine. Pretty basic, but this you don't come to Mataranka for luxury. Air conditioning cooled it down sufficiently, bed was good, bathroom dated but clean. Soooo many bugs both inside and out (had to get my partner to get rid of an enormous and horrible looking black spider in the room) which I suppose is unavoidable given the location, heat, and humidity. If you're a light sleeper and don't want to hear cicadas/crickets chirping all night without a break, bring earplugs. Had a nice meal at the onsite restaurant/cafe. I had the beef stir fry and my partner had the chicken schnitzel. Huge meals, good value. Had to take my plate back to our room and eat there due to being covered in flies. They do provide insect repellent and have deterrents around the place but it's an unwinnable battle unfortunately. Had a really good coffee the following morning. The owners of the park are very nice and it's obvious they are doing their best and want guests to have a good stay. Especially grateful that upon check in, I was informed that the Mataranka Thermal Pool was open! It was closed on our way up to Darwin, and I had resigned myself to the fact that it was closed for the wet season and would have to drive back in the dry to tick it off the bucket list. Thankfully it has now been ticked already. Would have rated this 3/5 because of all the bugs, but I do appreciate that in this part of the world there's not much anyone can do, so 4 it is.

  All good.

  As other reviewers have said, one thing on arrival was the overwhelming sound of cicadas! Loved it, was very clear we are in nature. Meals were fine, something in the menu for everyone and the chef was friendly. Im the room, yes there were bugs but look at the location- its unavoidable. We were told both Springs were closed on arrival but decided to look at Mataranka Springs to see what was there (faculties, thought there might be a souvenir shop) and On the way received a call from the owner to say it was now open. Went back for swimmers and headed to Mataranka- spent longer here than we thought, was amazing! Had dinner at the pub there too. For where you are, this place does what it says- room for everyone, air con to cool down with when we got back. Bathroom dated but worked. Pool was very warm. Some people like it some people dont but thats up to the individual.

  Dated but fine.

  This motel/camp ground has dated but functional rooms. The Cafe has good food, coffee and well priced drinks, and nice friendly staff. Would consider again if needing a place to stay or eat in Mataranka.

  Lovely spot

  Spent a night here whilst visiting beautiful Bitter Springs. Spacious motel room with all the mod cons, fan & air con, a comfy bed with quality linen, the bathrooms are showing their age but everything is perfectly clean and functional. The owners are also in the middle of renovating some of the rooms. Had a delicious home made veggie lasagne for dinner, and a barista coffee the next morning. This place is everything a traveller could hope for in the Territory, made special by the warm hospitality, happily recommend and look forward to a return visit.

  Quiet and peaceful

  Hubby and I camped for one night while passing thru. Was warm weather but rained a tad at midnight. Very friendly, lovely grounds. Amenities clean. Dinner at the restaurant was amazing, The Manor Pizza was yum and huge for us both to share.
