    Scenery and Serenity

The Hotel is located right by the lake and near one of the main tourist sites (statue of Tatsuko). It is a bit of a ways from the main shops at Tazawako - so unless you drive you are probably committed to having dinner and breakfast there. There is a souvenir shop nearby which also has some convenience store type items. I stayed in a lakeview room which has sweeping 180 degree views of the lake from large windows. The view is quite spectacular. The day I was there was rainy and stormy and it was interesting to watch theprogress of the storm across the lake. The room was quite large by Japanese standards. The decor was a bit 1980s style but it was quite new and all the furnishings were high quality and comfortable. Dinner was French style, well presented and delicious. For breakfast you can choose either western or Japanese style. Disappointingly there was no wifi access (and my wifi hotspot could not connect there either). There are plenty of car spots in the free car-park. Definitely a pleasant place to while away an afternoon.

Stunning lakeside views in a tranquil spot

This hotel is located right alongside lovely lake Tazawa, near the golden statue that is a landmark in the area. It's on the quieter side of the lake, so there isn't much else in the vicinity other than a tourist souvenir shop or two. This is definitely a place to stay when you want to kick back and relax. The decor is classical Western style, with an elegant feel. We had a car, so could go offsite for meals, but had dinner at the hotel on our first night. They request that you order your meal in advance, so we were shown a menu upon arrival. As a vegetarian, there wasn't too much on the menu I could eat beyond a salad, so I asked the man on reception if they could up with something simple. I was offered Japanese noodles (soba) but we had eaten a lot of soba on the trip. Since they had two types of pasta on the menu (spaghetti bolagnaise and seafood pasta), I asked if a vegetarian pasta dish was doable. It took a bit of humming and hawing, but the chef was contacted and agreed to do it. He cooked a delicious pasta dish for me and my partner enjoyed his fish. The rest of the meal was also very tasty. Breakfast was a Japanese/Wesern mix but more on the Japanese side. There would be something to suit all tastes. If you have special dietary needs, definitely contact them in advance to let them know. Although we didn't use it, there is a cute cafe attached to the hotel, which is open for light meals during the day. There is a also a Japanese rotenbo (communal bath) area, one side for woman and one for men. Wifi was extremely slow in the rooms but worked well in the lobby.

    Excellent view over Tazawako

The view from my room was stunning. I went in June and there were not many tourists. Was given an upgrade (I think to a higher floor) from a regular lake-view room. The rooms have panoramic windows overlooking Tazawa Lake. I spent two nights here - there's not much else to do unless you take the bus to the opposite shore. A bit of hiking is possible in the forest and hills behind the hotel. As this was in the middle of my trip, I basically did nothing but relax and watch the views of the lake change, enjoy the Jacuzzi bath, as well as the big common bath that also overlooks the lake and is just a few metres away from the shore. Especially recommended is the evening view - after dinner, I sat on the sofa of my room and watch as the sky goes dark. No sunset view though, the sun is behind. But because of that, you can see the lights on the opposite shore as the sun sets. Also, when the sky is clear (which it was a few hours on the evening of my first night) you can see the peak of Akita Komagatake. I had a half-board plan, and you have a choice of French or Japanese food for your meals (which were good). For lunch, the restaurant is also open but I chose to have Ramen at a simple store across the street. Only slight complaint is the air-conditioner is centrally controlled - you can only choose to on or off it but no control over temperature. And the Japanese sense of what is a comfortable temperature tends to be a few degrees above mine. Nevertheless, I had good sleeps. My booking was done via Rakuten.

    A French style Onsen Hotel

It provides French cuisines in the evening yet Japanese breakfast. It's quite a brand new hotel almost unnoticed by tourists. We only see very little traffic in the hotel, at all time. However, it provides a quiet environment, different from large scale onsen hotels which normally has tourist groups and lot of noises, in the hallway and in the onsen pools. I find this a value for money choice, and there are indeed very few to choose in the lake area.

Very good choice when stopping between east and west coasts.

The main tourist attractions here are Lake Tazawako and the lovely statue of Tatsuko, the beautiful young woman who was cursed for her pride and became a dragon. The rooms here are large and the lake views splendid. Onsen hours are limited, and there is a set Japanese breakfast rather than buffet. WiFi only works in the lobby. On the hotel grounds is a nice rose garden, so smell the roses! The statue is right next to the hotel. Across the road from the statue is a trailhead for a walk in the forest up to a picnic pavilion. The trail continues, but I didn't have time to complete the circuit.
