Large, spacious rooms close to the train station

Takamatsu Century Hotel is located about a 10-minute walk from Takamatsu Train Station and Espress Bus Terminal. It is closest to the latter and is housed in a 6-storey building that, according to its outside appearance, has seen better days. It comes with both a large lobby and car park and has an English name sign on the building. Check-in was smooth enough and I was given a quiet room on the 6th floor, as per my request. Check-in time is 4pm which is quite late and check-out time is 10am which essentially too early. Of all the hotels I stayed in this time in Japan, this room was the largest and the only hotel to provide me with free water. There are also free coffee sachets available . However, there was a musty smell at first in the room which disappeared later. The room was 4000 yen, was carpeted in a dark colour with white walls and consisted of a comfortable enough single bed next to which there was a telephone and lamp. There were 2 tables in the room : one tall round table and a long desktop next to the window where there was a TV, a kettle, a mirror, a tabletop lamp and toiletries (toothbrush and paste, razor, comb, hair band and body sponge). In one of the drawers, there was a hairdryer, there was a chair in front of the desk and a fridge under it. There were 2 mirrors hanging on the wall and a portable dehumidifier. There was aircon which worked satisfactorily and the WiFi worked well. A Japanese newspaper is delivered for free to your door in the morning. The bathroom was the worst part of the experience as the step up to it and down from it again is too steep. Anyone with reduced mobility, even if only through a foot injury, would find it difficult to use. I currently have a torn tendon and found getting back down from the bathroom painful. The bathroom itself was the usual Japanese cubicle containing bath tub with shower, a wash basin and high-tech toilet. Shampoo, conditioner and body soap were provided. There is plenty of warm water and the shower pressure is adequate, but the switches operating the shower are awkward and require some experimentation. There is no free breakfast, but there is breakfast served in the lobby area from 6:30-9:00am. There is a large buffet breakfast for 1000 yen and a business breakfast (translated into English as light breakfast) for 600 yen, but you can save 100 yen by ordering it in advance. This fact is only stayed in Japanese. I had the business breakfast which consisted of salad, two or three kinds of bread, boiled eggs, juices and tea or coffee. It was sufficient for the price. All in all, this is a good hotel with good service, large and quiet rooms and a comfortable bed as well as reasonably-priced breakfast. However, the step down from the bathroom is too steep and very awkward for somebody with less than perfect mobility. However, I would be happy to stay here again, the next time I'm in Takamatsu when my tendon will hopefully have healed.

    Terrible Service!

We originally planned to stay there from 7 Oct 2019 - 8 Oct 2019 and 11 Oct - 13 Oct. After what we have experienced on 8 Oct morning, we immediately cancelled our later booking. The staff here was simply unprofessional and unhelpful. We checked-in on 7 Oct and parked a rental car at the parking lot. When we visited the parking again next morning, we realised that our car's rear right side got hit and scratched. The cause of this damage was probably the white car parking behind us. We went to the reception and wanted to report this accident and seek help from the hotel staff, The staff, Mr. Onimatsu () first replied "The hotel has no responsibility on anything." I told him, I was not asking the hotel to be responsible for the car damage but I would like to seek help from him. He then said "We could not help you anything. You have to call your rental company and the police" I further explained, " I know I need to and that's why I want to seek your help to call them" He then pointed at my mobile phone and said "You have to call on your own" I told him my phone could not call anyone, it only had internet access, that was exactly why I wanted to ask him if I can borrow the land line phone at reception. He then replied " No, it's company policy I can't lend you the phone." I was so pissed and what kind of company policy rejected a customer to call a police?! Then he asked me to use a pay-phone. I then called the rental company and 110 to report to the police. However, the policeman was not good at English while I speak very limited Japanese. The police tried to call the front desk to seek help, despite I have already explained the staff Onimatsu was not helpful at all. My husband saw that this staff intentionally neglected the incoming call from police a few times even without serving any customers at the spot. We finally made the police understand the situation and they sent three police officers over, Mr. Onimatsu again was not helping to communicate, and even told the police officer he knew nothing about what had happened, even we had explained to him the accident earlier on. By the end of investigation, we decided we should never stay in such a hotel and cancelled our booking on 11-13 Oct on online booking platform. We informed Mr. Onimatsu on this issue too, and he insisted we needed to pay full fare to the hotel. We told him, we were entitled free cancellation on the web before 10 Oct. He still wanted to force us to pay. In the end, we left without talking to this ridiculous staff again. ** A small point to remark, we booked a non-smoking room but the room surly smelled like cigarettes.**

    Basic and good value

Close to train station and port. 15-20 mins walk from shopping and eating areas. Reception staff very welcoming and spoke some English. Communication before arrival very good. Room clean and had everything we needed. Room on top floor and very quiet. Breakfast had good selection of food. My main complaint is the breakfast staff. We were aware breakfast ended at 9am. We came down in plenty of time. However the staff would remind you on arrival of breakfast finishing time. Then they would come round telling you it was 8.45 and they finish at 9am. This made breakfast not a relaxing time. We did not have a dorm but wanted to use the Onsen however I could not due to having a tattoo. It does not tell you this in any of the hotel information.

, . . 3 2 , . . The big room is the best value for the price, and close to the station. But satisfaction was not good. Two towels were placed in the triple room, too, and I had a hard time sleeping on the floor. Coin lockers make it easy to store your luggage.
