RoomsPrice reasonable for 4 in a bedroom with 2 double bed. However theres no full length mirror, no closet, little hangers, very dim yellow lights. Must request for more items and will take them a Long time to reach us. Location opposite of Ximenting and mins walk from Ximen Mrt.

Good location, excellent serviceThe hotel location is excellent, Ximending just a skip and hop away, 7-eleven across the road, entrance to Ximen MRT just steps away (must walk underground for awhile, but very comfortable walk). Room is very clean and housekeeping very prompt with our requests. Breakfast is adequate to get us ready for the day. All in all, good experience with this hotel. We stayed 5 nights.

Strong Location. Great if all you want is a room.First, this place is in an office building. You'll be on floors 2-5. With one elevator dedicated to the hotel portion. The rest of the building and elevators are for the office levels. Second, the room I had came with one king bed and a carpet that had me not wanting to take off my shoes or least wearing the slippers. This is a very no frills hotel. You need a place to stay that is clean (exception of the carpet which had too many stains) then this place works but maybe not at more than USD100 per night though it does come with breakfast. You are within 10 minutes of Taipei Station from this hotel - but I walk fast. Breakfast is on the 2nd floor and was simple and ample in terms of selection but nothing to write about. It was a mix of local + Western with a clear bias toward local dishes. The staff was quite friendly but unfortunately I feel either HQ or the hotel manager do not have a grip on the value of their property. Taiwan Sugar is a large quasi government controlled business. The hotel is probably on their own property. Regardless, if they put a bit more effort and care into its appearance and management it has the location to give many other places a good run for the money. Unfortunately, it feels as if HQ and management have decided they are going to work the property for all its worth as the fixtures, etc., have likely been fully depreciated. So my criticism is on management + HQ for their total lack of vision. Not on the staff who are quite representative of the local Taiwan people - very friendly. *Note: my photos are not fully representative of the room as I forgot to take pictures before depositing all my luggage and messing up the sheets.

Friendly and Attentive Staff+ Strategy Location next to Ximending + Animate Café and 7/11 store next to hotel. + Simple but adequate breakfast. + Big room size compare to other hotel near ximending. - Hotel Room air-con temperature seems cannot be adjusted.

Lovely relaxing stay in a modern hotel, near Ximending shopping area, easy access to transport, good bathroom privacyIt's our first time in Taiwan and we chose Taisugar to stay in. It's a tall building on Zhonghua Road. The hotel is actually just the first five floors. The rest are offices. Our tour guide shared some history of Taisugar that it made some products. The bottled water and biscuit in the room are actually branded Taisugar. As for our stay: Room Our room was on the 4th floor facing Hankou Street. The room was quite spacious and clean. There are two twin beds, professional-looking desk with chair, kettle, coffee/tea, biscuits, bottled water, small refrigerator with freezer, safe, and wall-mounted TV. There's no closet but there was a few hangers and a wooden beam to hang clothes on. There's also inadequate sockets (and they're not bedside). We used the socket for the kettle to charge a phone/mobile wifi, and unplugged the lamp to charge the other phone/power bank. Also, the only English channel I can remember is Warner TV Asia. The bathroom is spacious. Hair dryer, toiletries, and towels are available. The toilet is Japanese-style with water spray and has buttons to control it. I think the seat can be warmed too. The shower has good water pressure. There's a rail handle on the wall for safety. There's a curtain and some drainage by the shower. Unlike many hotels in Taiwan, Taisugar's bathroom thankfully doesn't have translucent glass walls. It was my main consideration when choosing a hotel. There is a small portion on a corner by the sink that is translucent, but there's still privacy. It's very bright when someone is using the bathroom. I easily get woken up by light (even just a mobile phone's), so my sleep is disrupted if someone's using the bathroom. Would be nice if there was a curtain to cover that. Our room was facing Hankou Street, but we were still able to see some of Zhonghua Road. Since the hotel is only 5 floors, there's no top-of-the-building / skyline view. The view of the street is quite nice though both in the daytime and evening. We were told our side was quiet, which it was. I'm not sure with the rooms facing Zhonghua. Dining Our stay came with daily buffet breakfast at the 2nd floor, "Sweety House", which was all right. Since it's a 4-star hotel, it could be better. There's rice, noodles, dumpling, various dishes, cold cuts, soup, bread, beverages, fruit, and dessert. I have to say I really enjoyed the coffee machine. At the ground floor of the hotel, there's a cafe when you walk past the lobby. You can also go to the anime-themed Animate Cafe outside which you can see from the lobby. On the other side of Zhonghua Road is Mos Burger, where we ate while waiting for the check-in time. The Ximending area is also walking distance. There are lots of food choices there such as various Taiwanese street food, bubble tea, desserts, and restaurants with seating. There's also the famous toilet-themed "Modern Toilet" restaurant, but we haven't been there. Service We were satisfied with the service. Hotel staff spoke English. When we needed something and called through the phone, they attended to our needs. One thing I read from a previous review was that there's no bellhop to help you with your luggage. I didn't see one when we were there, but it's okay for us because our luggage had wheels. Hotel Facilities/Amenities/Atmosphere There is a conference room in the hotel. There is no swimming pool. The hotel feels modern and quiet. We felt relaxed when we got inside the hotel, a contrast to the busy Ximending shopping area. WiFi We had WiFi and it was of good speed. I can't remember if I did a speed test because I look back at my gallery and can't see a screenshot of it. Parking, Drop-off/Pick-up Area There doesn't seem to be a parking area for cars. However, I did see a row of motorcycles parked on the side of the hotel at Hankou Street. There's no proper drop-off. Our tour guide dropped us off along Zhonghua Road. On our tour day and when we were picked up to be driven to the airport, our tour guide waited for us in the car across Hankou Street near Just Sleep Hotel/7-Eleven. We had to drag our luggage across the street. Location and Shopping Taisugar is near Ximending, which is a shopping district with lots of shopping choices such as branded clothing, toys, pop merchandise, souvenirs, and so on. And since there's an MRT station and bus stops in the area, one can easily travel to other places, other malls/shopping areas. Malls are usually connected to the underground MRT system and is very accessible. As for supermarkets, the nearest one is Jason's Marketplace in FE21, a department store at Baoqing Road. From the hotel, cross the road to Just Sleep Hotel/7-Eleven. Continue walking in that direction. When you see Midtown Richardson, you're almost there. FE21 is a colorful building. Jason's is in a basement floor. Another one is Carrefour. The supermarket is 24 hours, but the shops/restaurants on other floors are not. It's still a long walk from FE21, and it's at Guilin Road. What surprised me is the amount of anime in Taiwan. What attracted me to Taisugar is an Animate store is just outside its door. I went to it several times as if it was a 7-Eleven, LOL. From the hotel, you can take the MRT and go to one of the next stations, the Beimen station. From there, you can start your walk into the long underground Taipei City Mall with lots of anime merchandise and other stuff as well. Fellow Johnny's/Jpop fans, I also recommend you go to "Chia Chia Records", which is a few minutes walk from Taisugar. It's near Lane 11 and before crossing to Tiger Sugar. Chia Chia is on the 2nd floor. You'll see their yellow sign with their store name written in Hanzi and in English. Vicinity There is a 7-Eleven near the hotel just across Hankou Street at Just Sleep Hotel. If you go further into Hankou Street to the direction of the back of the hotel, there's a Family Mart at Roaders Hotel. As for currency exchange, there's not a lot of money changers in Taiwan. The nearest one from the hotel is in FE21 at Baoqing Road. I was able to exchange money at Taipei 101 when we went there as part of our tour. In terms of transportation, when you walk out of the hotel and cross to the middle of Zhonghua road, there are bus stops. If you cross Hankou Street to Just Sleep/7-Eleven, there are stairs (which some people might find steep/has many steps) leading down to the underground walkway to the Ximen MRT station. We enjoyed Taipei's public transport system which was efficient and convenient, and we were able to visit more places. Security The hotel is well-secured with attentive security personnel and cameras. Reservation, Check-in, Deposit, Check-out, Luggage Storage We went to Taiwan on a tour package and a travel agency made the reservation for us. We didn't have deposit I think maybe because of that. We came in early and had to return at 3 pm for check-in. There was luggage storage, so we were able to explore the area freely before that. Check-in was a breeze. Check-out was at 11am and was also a breeze. Our flight was in the evening and we also left our luggage so we could explore the city more. It was nice that there was a weighing scale at the lobby, which the staff assisted us with. I was able to move stuff from my carry-on to my check-in luggage and avoided excesss luggage weight charges. Value Since our Taiwan trip was arranged by a travel agency and billed us a package, I'm not sure how much the hotel stay particularly costed. Overall We enjoyed our stay in Taisugar and had a very memorable Taiwan travel experience. We want to go back in the future. And when we do, Taisugar will remain our choice of stay. See you again, Taisugar! :D
