Nice outdoor in-room onsenWe travelled as a couple for 2 nights during December. They had the scheduled shuttle transport from hotel to station. We arrived early and had to wait at the station about an hour for shuttle bus. Arrival, we had to carry our 2 large luggages upstair to the front reception. The room was nice especially our private outdoor onsen. The public onsen was really small. Our dinner course was a bit disappoint, we didn't like the taste. The special beef was too fatty. The room was private but during our stay there was other guests came into our room because they thought that our room was a public onsen. The hotel staffs were very friendly and very helpful. The price was too high.

Relaxing stayWe had a lovely two night stay at Syoubun. We booked the shuttle bus service via the website (slightly dubious Google translate!) which was punctual. We were welcomed and settled in. The level of English of the staff was variable (certainly better than my Japanese) but there were printed information sheets. We stayed in one of the western room with an outdoor bath, which was beautiful. Furnishings were to an excellent standard and I especially enjoyed sitting in the rocking chair and looking out of the window. We went walking in the local area in order to build up an appetite. The food was varied on both days, and made the most of local ingredients. I would recommend the homemade plum liquor. We reserved the "ladies" private bath to spend time as a couple after dinner, which we felt was the nicest. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, and overall we had a wonderful relaxing stay.

Most Beautiful en suite onsen, a family run ryokan, great hospitality, superb dinnerFirstly, this is a family run ryokan, typical Japanese style, there're rules when staying in the hotel. However, they will give you the instruction in English and some staff can speak English fairly. We did not rent a car so when we arrived by train to Jomokogen station, then we took bus to Minakami Station and ask the hotel in advance to pick us up there. (be note, they will only come to pick up guests at 3pm once a day only) We booked a maisonette with private onsen room type and get a far end room which a little far away but we get extra privacy in return. The onsen in our room is perfect and really adding natural feeling while soaking in we enjoy this so very much. The upstairs bedroom is so comfortable and so spacious. The room is very new and clean in my opinion may be it just get renovated. However, be note that for this room type the shower room (a very tiny one) is located beside the outdoor onsen and this is quite a problem for us who always need to get shower twice a day but it might not be a problem for those who do not want to take shower. The room rate included breakfast and dinner, they prepared all the meal neatly and so tasty, the timing is so strict and we need to come at the time set every single meal. Staying in this kind of hotel is so relaxing but you cannot be too easy with the time and rules. I think the hotel is suit for adult and couple better not quite suitable for family with kids.

Quiet and pretty hotel in good location. We stayed here for 3 nights at the height of the Autumn colours. I think the hotel was full but it is really hard to tell. It's very quiet and you dine in separate cubicles. If you like solitude this is the place for you. The welcome and service is excellent, very little English is spoken but they are exceptionally helpful and that more than makes up it. The food is very good, very Japanese (as you would hope!) I have travelled alot in Japan and one or two things out of the many wonderful dishes were just a touch challenging. But nothing that the free glass of sake before dinner couldn't help me deal with! As for location it is close to the ropeway but if you just continue to drive up the road (64) the scenery is magnificent.

PerfectWhat a beautiful property! We went during winter and it snowed a little. We made a round trip shuttle reservation through the website and it was prompt from the bus station. The hospitality was great and the room was beautiful. The dinner was amazing. We booked the separate mansionette with personal onsen and it was perfect. I would highly recommend this place for anyone looking for some R&R!
