Great Dog Friendly CabinsWe stayed here for 3 nights in one of the Sleeping cabins with 2 queen beds. This lodge was a perfect location to hit some of the sights in that area - Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park. There is also a nice lake that has a trail to walk around. Our dogs loved the surprise snowfall we had in early september. Also, lots of good hiking trails nearby. The room was fine with 2 queen beds, a fireplace, a microwave, coffee maker and small fridge. We were able to easily walk down to the lake and the lodge is within walking distance as well. The general store is further away, but walkable if you go the lake trail. It does get a little cold with only the wall unit to heat the place, so in the winter months, you may want to get the fireplace going. The service upon check in and during dinner was fine. We were able to get what we needed when we needed it with no problems.

Over promised and under deliveredBooked a room at the lodge for a couple nights first weekend in October 2020. Used pics from Hotels.com app, which were NOTHING like what we walked into. First, door handle installed upside down. Had trouble opening. Room was tiny, dated and freezing. Temperature outside was in 50s (Fahrenheit), window was open and Ptac unit (heater) was only putting out cold air. One light full-size blanket on a queen-size bed, which would never cover two adults. Blinds held together by paper clip. Vanity light rusted. Tub stained blue. Lightbulb out. Front desk unhelpful. Hotels app came through for us to relocate.

Fantastic Location, Cabin in Rough ShapeWe spent just one night in cabin 407, otherwise known as the Honeymoon Cabin. The setting is incredible. Somewhat secluded and on the edge of a cliff overlooking some of the most gorgeous scenery imaginable. The cabin itself is pretty good too. Cozy and cute with a wood burning fireplace. However, there were numerous problems with the place. No mattress pad, just a thin fitted sheet which was too small for the mattress and kept coming off. No blankets, just a sheet and the bed spread. Bright blue/white LED bulbs in the lights which made the place look horrible inside. Very poor curtains. Fireplace didnt draw well which caused smoke to come into the room frequently. And the phone didnt work so we couldnt call to fix the problems. Bottom line is its a cute cabin in an awesome setting, but all the problems significantly reduced our enjoyment of the evening. Too bad.

Wonderful stay in the Honeymoon CabinCan't say enough great things about Sylvan Lake and the Honeymoon cabin my wife and I stayed in. The views from the cabin are worth the price. I'm attaching pics of the cabin seen from Sylvan Lake, you can see how remote it is. I also a pic of the view my wife and i had from the cabin. The thrid pic os a panorama of Sylvan Lake. When we visited a wonderful art shop in Hill City, the owner told us that is her most special getaway place to go. The room has a King size bed, fireplace in and out, and seclusion. Put it on your bucket list.

just take a lookwe went to the lodge, just to take a look, and we go to the restroom as well, the interior looks like a wooden cabin, the lobby has an old acoustic piano, there are many animal heads (e.g. bison, mountain goat, moose, elk, etc.) on the wall, it has some vintage feel.
