Disappointing visitWe booked the hotel back in august with a buy a gift voucher. We chose the hotel as it had leisure facilities available and the others on the voucher didnt. The day before arrival I received an email confirming our visit etc. It mentioned that leisure facilities were pre booked so I called and the member of staff on reception said they were fully booked for our entire stay. When I asked what the booking arrangements were she said people have been able to call up and book, it says so on our website since the guidance came out. I explained that I had looked on the website but couldnt find this I formation anywhere and that it seemed a little unfair to allow people to book for they have even checked it. Other hotels we have recently visited booked on check in so it was first come, first served which seems much more reasonable. We were disappointed but nothing we could do. On arrival we parked and went to check in. We asked about the leisure facilities again and were told the same thing by the same person I spoke to on the phone. I said again about the booking system and she replied that actually people usually have to pay for the facilities when they stay at the hotel but with the vouchers the hotel give them free so its just a bonus really... I was quite shocked that she thought this was acceptable. That the hotel is doing us a favour so tough luck?! Very disappointing start. We went to our room on the first floor and the disappointment continued unfortunately. The room was tiny and very dated. The room was also unbearably hot despite the radiator being off. The sink and toilet were wedged in the room next to the bath and there was literally no room to move. The fan sounded like a plane taking g off when you turned it on. The wardrobe was so wobbly I was worried it would collapse when we opened it. Premier inn and other budget hotels are far better quality than this for sure. We cracked a window and had to keep our window open throughout the stay. I mentioned to reception that it was very hot and she said the heating was off in The rooms but we heard other guests also complain about how excessively hot it was. Breakfast was nice and lots of options. We headed down about 9.45 each day and waited only a few minutes to be seated. The waitresses in the restaurant were not very observant or cheerful and we had to try hard to get their attention when we needed something. There did not seem to be an awareness of when new people were being seated by the host. As I say, we enjoyed the food so no complaints there. The first day hot food was served much more generously than the second day but it wasnt a huge problem. There seemed to be lots of food wastage with people over ordering and quite large portions of continental options being provided but thats obviously not the hotels fault just people being greedy which is a shame. Perhaps portions could be reduced and people could then ask for more just to try to curb that a little. The gym facilities were very small and basic but fine. Only problem was no mats available to use. It was a shame about the weather during our stay but the hotel was in a good location about 10 mins walk from the centre of town and we were happy with that.

Lovely short stayThe hotel is handling COVID regulations very well, nice staff and comfortable rooms with good beds. Breakfast is very good and dinner also with a good choice of nicely presented food. Happy to return in the near future.
