Lovely quiet retreat in the winter

My daughter and I had a last minute change of travel plans and found this delightful gem 2 hours outside of Prague. We did our own yoga, as their yoga session is only on the weekend, but that worked really well for us. We came for relaxation and found it. A special thanks to all the staff who graciously helped us understand when we did not know Czech. A heartfelt thank you to Stepanka who works in the restaurant. Her bright smile and openness to any special request was a lovely addition to a very special 4 days here. We highly recommend this resort in the countryside of Czech Republic!

A perfect place to slow down

Spa resort in the middle of forests in a pristine nature. We had a wonderful relaxed time in their brand new and beautiful ajurvedic pavilon with a view stright in the forest. Perfect place to slow down and treat yourself!

    Punches above it's weight

If you're not a fan of long reviews, I urge you to stop reading now, because taking 3 stars off of a luxurious retreat resort needs a bit more explaining than your regular chinese takeout that served cold noodles. I'd like to start by saying this was our first and last visit to RSK (Resort Svata Katerina). We left with very mixed feelings because some things we did or saw were just beautiful and we've enjoyed ourselves very much and some things just made us question whether we're misplaced in some newly opened hippie hotel with no management and zero experience. 1st star off for shuttle service. I hereby advise RSK to reconsider the approach they took to this entire no-cars, take a shuttle thing. If the shuttle service was swift and painless I wouldn't probably worry about it, but boy did it not meet our expectations at all. We thought that if we're forced to leave our car in the next city (most likely for the sole purpose of RSK not having to build a parking lot next to their hotel, disguised as "you don't need to worry about driving" service) that upon calling the shuttle service we'd be transported in as swift manner as possible. Unfortunately, upon arrival we contacted the driver as instructed and we were told that he, the driver, just left and he'll be back in 15. (Only after that I learned that one way takes 3-4min max so I'm not really sure what he'd been doing the remainder of the time but it's something I learned the day we were leaving, stay with me). Okay, we can wait a little longer, even though we've been driving for 2.5hrs and we really want to get there. So we're patiently waiting. For 20mins. When our driver finally arrives - there's us and another couple waiting. We boarded the bus looking forward to finally getting to our destination after almost 3hrs en route, when the driver casually asks whether we're in a rush or we can wait for 5-10min since he can't just go back and forth for every person that reaches out to him and someone else is probably coming soon. What. The. Hell. I understand that such decision was above driver's pay grade, but we engaged in a discussion demanding that we're taken immediately as we had to make dinner plus we've scheduled massage right after that. After some back and forth with the driver we finally departed and quickly learned that he also needs to pick up hotel staff scattered across the town, as this appears to be their only means of getting to work. This entire situation made us feel a tad irritated as I struggle to see why any of what I've mentioned above should affect us, the guests. I've read through other reviews and this shuttle bus situation is most definitely NOT explained thoroughly at hotel's website. There is just the nice marketing line: "... can use the free hotel shuttle bus, which runs between the parking lot and the resort when necessary." Fast forward to our last day, checking out around 10am, Sunday, just like 8 other rooms did. We double checked at the front desk that the departure times for shuttle bus advertised in the lobby still stand. Yes they do, great. What we didn't know was that on day one we were taken by a minibus taking ±20 passengers, but now, when there was 8 rooms of people waiting outside, the driver arrived with a smaller bus with a capacity of 8. So we saw two buses depart until it was finally our turn. Each round took 15-20min, mind you, that one way is 3-4min max. When we boarded the bus, the driver was told off by someone at the front desk for not taking the larger bus. He replied he needs to have mileage on this bus as well. Cool. When we finally arrived at the parking lot where our car was parked, there it was. In all it's glory. The larger bus. And another driver. Our driver helped with our bags and proceeds to chat with the other guy, not really bothered that there's still another 5 people waiting behind at the hotel. There goes the 20min roundtrip. Mind boggling. I urge you, do something about this. This is not something I would expect from a supposedly 4 star hotel. I would be perfectly fine with driving to the front door, saving an hour of our time and some grey hair. 2nd and 3rd star off as a combination of all issues mentioned below. Any single one would probably not matter, but there were just way too many to turn a blind eye. - It is advertised that the entire premises are non-smoking. There are ash-trays in front of the front desk, Garnison hotel entrance, there were people smoking at breakfast one morning!! I saw some of the staff smoking outside the front desk. - The bed was not king size or even queen size, it was two single beds pushed together, so if you're looking to cuddle your partner at night, it's both of you on a single bed or nothing, in the middle there's a gap and you'll just fall through. - There is a passcode on gym door we were not told about. I tried calling the front desk twice and nobody answered, really surprising since it's the front desk. Then, right when I was about to walk to the front desk, a man walked by and told us, with a slight smile on his face, that the code is 123456. Maybe we should've tried that, maybe it's obvious and we're just stupid, I don't know. One way or another, why is there a passcode on a gym that's free of charge? - The breakfast was surprisingly underwhelming. I saw eggs three ways, bread, some veggies, cheese and salami, oats, milk, yoghurt, fruits .. the usual suspects. Nothing breathtaking. Salads were quite nice. No selection for non-dairy people. (I know that you can pay extra to have your entire stay allergen free, but come on, just buy some coconut milk and margarine as alternative to butter, it's 2020). - There was a serious lack of communication from the front desk, even though, upon arrival, we were asked if it's our first time staying there, we still had to ask all the questions ourselves - when is the breakfast served, what earliest we can do lunch, where is the gym, how to get where, how do our paid procedures work. - The iOS app is totally useless. It didn't show our balance until the very last day when it forced me to re-sign. We couldn't see the times of our paid procedures, it only showed the current time. Luckily we got those times printed at the front desk. - Saturday evening was harp night, nice addition. Absolutely beautiful atmosphere, live music, we arrived early to grab a table. All tables were reserved. Well we didn't know we can reserve a table, if we were told we might as well reserved one. Apparently that was for the guests that had pre-paid their dinners. So you're telling me the package that cost less than ours did has superior treatment and we have to sit by the bar downstairs? Strange. We couldn't arrange with the usher, shrug, nothing I can do folks, sorry. We were then told by another server this is not how things usually go and reservations are usually not placed. Usually. Shame it has happened to us, it could've been a beautiful evening with a harp. - Three out of four massages we booked were absolutely wonderful, professional, the masseur talked us through everything, was very polite. Thank you greatly. One "massage" at the ajurvedic place did not meet our expectations at all, but maybe it was supposed to be more like a ritual than a massage. Anyway my wife got warm milk poured into her hair for 45min. It was nice but not a massage. Not worth almost 2k. - Hotel rooms are most definitely not 4 star standart. Saying that it's because eco-friendliness is not an argument, sorry. I want to end on a positive note, so: All wines we tried at the restaurant were delicious and reasonably priced. The same goes for meals, we've thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful at both dinners and one lunch we had there. The nature around is stunning and it's really peaceful, especially the sun bed view outside ajurvedic pavillon was simply breathtaking. Masseurs were very professional, higher standard than what we're accustomed to. To sum it up, we enjoyed some things, but at the price tag that comes with this resort, we simply expected much much more.

Week for parents with children - not recommended

I bought family package which was offered by this resort. The family stay was offered for 5 days. Resort is in the middle of forest. Horse riding, tennis, wellness, spas, nice hiking trials around and bicycle trials around the area. Spas and massage was very good. Yoga was something similar to yoga. :-) Pilates cancelled for whole week during our stay. Food is delicious but service at restaurant is bad and even worse when you have child with some allergy restrictions. They are not able to change/remove something from the food or it is done only when you talk to responsible person at hotel. Afterwards they do it but you have to push/remind them every time. Portions are different even when you order same food/table. Prices are higher than in Prague. Waitress does not behave professionally. Very similar behavior can be seen on some receptionist as well. Once the food was served to us after 1 hour and 20 minutes with explanation by waitress - "That´s it. A lot of people in here." From our experience we can say it is not for the family with small children but mostly for friends, adults only, groups, families with big children and so on. It is very difficult to change something according to your small children. It seems like the family package was made just because other resorts have it. However, nothing is ready for family stay. You can not get with car into area which is nice but travel three times back and forth by bus to get food suitable according to allergy is something impossible and time consuming of course. There is one playground (with sandpit but without molds) outside but nothing for children inside. Overall experience - disappointed. Some advices: do not order water at restaurant. It is exactly the same water you have from tap but cost 2 Eur. Do not order yoga mat for 12 Eur. You can find those for free at the training room.

    Wonderful 5 days of wellness

I went to this resort with my friend for 5 days full of relax and I am sure we will come back! The accommodation is really nice, rooms are clean and everything was perfect. You are in the middle of beautiful forest far from any distractions. I do suggest to book as many massages and therapies possible, there is so much to choose from. Staff is very professional and the level of service is really exceptional!! Old spa in the main building is awesome, but the new Ayurveda spa is something you need to experience!! It is truly the best spa in Czech Republic and you will enjoy your stay there. The only thing I think needs improvement is the restaurant and menu offer. It is probably different when you book a package with special diet, if not the food is truly average. I would appreciate more healthy options for breakfast and more healthy or vegetarian/vegan options in the menu. The offer of menu is in my opinion quite unhealthy and not matching the philosophy of the resort. Anyway I really loved my stay and will come back soon!
