  Wish we had stayed elsewhere....

  So when we first got to our room at Surfers Tradewinds, I was fully prepared to give them a 4 star rating. Yes it wasn't the tidiest, but it was also cheap. We got a room upgrade, and check in was a breeze. I once stayed here about 10 years ago with my family and dont remember any complaints ... But let me tell you the reasons my thoughts changed ... 1. The bond I had to check in after hours. The next day I see a form for me to sign requesting a $200 bank hold as a bond. This wasn't something I'd read about, nor was it something I would have agreed to upon purchasing my stay at Tradewinds. We are a young couple, pinching every penny; and needed that $200 as emergency money. I emailed the owner and request the bond be waived. The bond seemed ridiculous given the condition of the rooms. The carpets had stains everywhere, the heatpump was leaking water straight over an electrical outlet, the bathroom wasn't clean and the furniture wasn't cared for. If they have taken a bond of anyone, it certainly doesn't look like they have used it to maintain the rooms. This leads me to reason 2 ... 2. Lack of communication I had direct communication via. Email about after hour check in ... however, after I requested the bond to be waived, I never got a response. Further the manager is only on site between 10am and 3pm. Makes it really difficult to sort things out. This also limits the check in hours 3. The kitchen So the kitchen could definitely do with an upgrade. Even a few easy things like a functioning toaster and a non -stick pan. You are not provided with any cooking oil, dish brush, dish soap or dishwasher tablets. This makes cleaning dishes almost impossible unless you are prepared to buy everything yourself. 4. The Wi-Fi If you are in desperate need of Wi-Fi while you stay here, you're better off buying data for your mobile phone. The Wi-Fi was intermittent and when usable, often slow. We had to keep switching between Wi-Fi networks hoping for a good connection. Often times I'd just use my phone data instead. 5. Pest control Yes there are cockroaches in this apartment. And clearly they know this as they sent in pest control ... they let us know only a day in advance that pest control would be entering our room. As there is no safe in the room, this is not something I was comfortable with. Overall ... we wish we had paid more money and stayed elsewhere. It wasn't even worth staying somewhere with kitchen facilities as they were unusable.

  Beautifully located

  Stayed for a 10 day holiday and whilst the apartment is comfortable it isn't equipped overly well. It had the basic kitchen equipment but needs a few more to make it user friendly. The staff were delightful and whilst nothing was too much trouble they omitted to tell us that the apartment was only set up with a 'starter' kit of basics such as toilet paper, dish washing liquid etc. As we were interstate visitors we flew to Qld this was a little inconvenient for the length of our stay. However the grounds are well maintained and lovely and clean. The pool and spa were very welcome and once again well maintained. Would recommend.

  2 bedroom apartment for 5 people

  Stayed here for a weekend Feb 2019. 2 couples and 1 baby sharing a 2 bedroom apartment. Apartment 13 - as we are advised each apartment is individually owned, and requested to state our review should not a reflection of the resort but of the room We were allocated. Taking a shower whilst the cloths drier running in the same room we got a sudden burning smell, the drier tripped out. Upon investigation the drier is missing its lint catcher and there was lint everywhere - surprised we avoided a fire. Getting up during the night and turn the light on to see cockroaches scatter through the kitchen. We were advised they have treated the apartment multiple times, however appears they need to investigate further. Cleaning is poor, tissues behind the bed. Kebab rubbish behind lounge. soap left in shower from Previous guests. Toilet floor unclean. Thankfully we got a good price on our 2 night stay and find the location with parking to be convenient. TV modern. Full size fridge and kitchen working. Air conditioner working but only in main area, not fully air condtioned through to bedrooms.

  poorly maintained unit

  We had a family weekend away with our 5 week old. the unit is a great location but the unit it self Unit 13 is in poor repair and needs something done. When we arrived their was used soap in the shower, food wrappers in the lounge room, used tissues in the bedroom. we used the washer and dry but the dryer tripped the power and was red hot, no filter in the dryer and what would appear years of fluff behind washing machine. they have a table set up put side the window and at 2 am its frustrating people are smoking and talking while you are trying to sleep, the add said air conditioned unit thats a joke, only the lounge room was air conditioner. cockroaches all over the kitchen at night

  Great Location, poorly maintained

  The location is great the pool and BBQ is  pretty tidy but the rooms are very old and dilapidated, ceiling fan in my room sounded like a generator (so old and loud room 13), alot of the cupboard drawers are of it's broken side rails and cant be opened, shower had black mould in the groutings, floor had beach sand specially under the bed . Microwave had old baked beans sauce spilt inside, cupboards in the kitchen had some cockroaches , and they have a A4 size paper around the rooms saying to "keep everything clean and tidy"....make sense?! I've stayed in backpackers in Vietnam that were much cleaner. Abit overpriced for what your getting out of the place, your basically paying for its location. This place could be much better if they focus on cleaning the rooms thoroughly and update everything that dont work. And maybe tell the permanent tenants to keep their apartments yards abit more tidy as it kind of made me feel like I was staying in the ghetto and concidering my room only had one lock on the main front door and all the screen doors had broken locks,  it really wasn't a very comfortable stay for me and my young family.
