    Awful!

Sunshine hotel was, by far, the worst place we stayed in Sri Lanka. The hotel is big but deserted with a really creepy feel about it. The room was ABSOLUTELY FILTHYand the bathroom was disgusting - they had obviously never cleaned it! There was a horrible smell in the room, the mattress was made of old rotting foam and there was no mosquito net. When we arrived we were charged a lower rate than we expected, but thought it was just a low -season discount being offered to us so didn't question it. The next day we were asked to pay the difference as the man from the day before was new and had made a mistake. When we said we had no intention of paying more as the mistake was not ours and in any case we were checing out because we couldnt bear to stay in the room any longer, we were shouted at. AVOID!!!

For once: ignore Lonely Planet and stay away!

This was a mistake. A big mistake. I went here because of the Lonely Planet-recommendation. Boy I was wrong. The hotel is just a brick building, a bit scary during the night. Tiles were loose, WiFi didn't have a password and was slow-working as well, and room wasn't very clean. But the worst part is the staff. When I arrived they didn't look really happy to see me. Had to carry my own bag - yeah I can manage fine on my own but just the question 'are you okay with your bag' would have been nice - and in the morning while checking out, the manager was whining like a baby when I gave him a 5000 rs-note because he didn't have change and he wanted ME to change it. Rotten luck. People in Sri Lanka I told this about were suprised. 'You paid 1600 rs and you didn't get any breakfeast?!' No people, I didn't. There are cheaper hotels which DO serve breakfast. Horrible staff, just because of the staff: Stay. Away!

    Very cheap for good reason

Our stay at this hotel lived up to all its poor reviews. Checked in to the room, and the staff werent overly bothered that we were there (not even a hello or welcome). Like most other reviewers we werent even offered help with the bags. Got shown to our budget room, and the room doesnt even live up to that standard: - Brown stains all over the walls - Dirty bed sheets - Broken tiles in the floor, which looked sharp - No bin - Sink water drained on to floor - Rock hard bed (some cheap foam). What sealed the deal was that the door wouldnt lock. The staff were adamant that there was a way to lock the door, which needed a magic tap... this was not true and he was there for 5 mins failing to lock the door... and eventually believing us that it was broken. He wanted us to come back after 4-5 hours so the manager can offer us a new room (lol). This clearly was enough evidence (along with all the reviews) to cancel our stay here. So all in all a very short stay here. The best part was that the staff had no words when we gave back the keys. Give this place a skip if youre considering staying here.

    Nice colours, and OK

We had an average room upstairs. Nothing special.there was a fridge which was very nice. The staff was OK. The location in a smaller street is fin, and not far from the center. The price was OK. I coul use this hotel next time, too
