Nice but more suited to people with own transportWe stayed at Sunset Village for four nights in October 2015. The two floor townhouse was very nice and very large albeit a bit 'sterile'. It was quite 'echo-y' because of the tiled floors, no carpets and flimsy curtains. Luckily all the windows and doors (except for the front door) had electric shutters operated from inside, so quite secure. The furniture and décor was modern but the sofa seats in our apartment could have done with a clean as the upholstery was a bit 'grubby'. The place itself though was very clean throughout and everything was supplied including towels, liquid hand soap, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets and washing machine detergent. However there were no instructions explaining the washing machine (the machine itself showing Portuguese words on the controls) so trying to find a short wash cycle proved difficult as we don't know any Portuguese! There are 2 upstairs balconies to sit on and a downstairs outdoor space too, complete with table and chairs. And two recliners. They look out onto the pool area which is a few metres away. Unfortunately there is little soundproofing between apartments, the result being we could hear the neighbours loudly scraping their chairs on the tile floors (frequently!) and could hear their TV. Also their electric shutters being operated first thing in the morning. Not so good if you want a lie-in. The pool area and outside was nice with loungers available if needed and there was an additional small wading pool for children. Lots of palm trees. There were several English language channels on the TV but basically just news channels - no entertainment channels. The remote control probably needed a new battery as it was a bit intermittent in operation. There was a reverse cycle air-con unit in each bedroom and another in the dining area but only 1 remote for all three. A bit awkward if there is more than one couple staying. However the place would be very suitable for two couples as there was plenty of space and each bedroom had its own bathroom. Single beds only in the bedrooms. Bedrooms are situated upstairs so not suitable for wheel chairs. It was fairly quiet at night at our end (next to reception) but we heard dogs barking from neighbouring properties during the night (quite common it seems in Portugal) which possibly would annoy people at the other end of the complex closer to the suburb houses. Parking is good. You can park right outside the front door of the apartment and there is also an under cover garage on the premises. A 'mud map' and a remote was left in the apartment but no instructions as to what the remote was for. Luckily we worked it out before going out at night and being locked out (it opened the automatic gate to the complex which is closed at night.) A few important points:- There was no doormat at the front door so if it was raining the tiled steps/floors etc became very slippery. This could be a bit dangerous! We arrived in the evening after the reception had closed and had been given instructions by email as to where to find the key. However, there was no light left on outside the apartment and no security light to find the key-safe. When we eventually found it we needed a torch to read the codes. Luckily we carry one. Impossible if you didn't have a light of one sort or another. These apartments are more suited to people with cars. The complex is situated in the suburbs at the top of a hill, about 700m down a scruffy suburban street to the beach. Fine going down but not so good going up if you don't have a certain amount of fitness. Also the supermarket (Intermarche) was 2kms from the complex. Again a long walk for shopping and very tiring walking back up the hill with bags of groceries. Not a problem if you don't want to self-cater. There are several reasonably priced restaurants, all within walking distance, down by the beach. Not the cheapest place but all in all a nice place to stay, clean and modern, but more suited to people with own transport. There was a small (3.4) earthquake in the Algarve early the first morning we were there and we felt it in the apartment. An interesting experience.

Superb for a quiet getaway...If you are one who likes to get away from the hotel beach strip scene, this is the place. There is a one bedroom apartment which is perfectly appointed and spacious with lots of balcony room with the remainder being two bedroom town homes leading out onto grassy areas and a lovely pool (lots of loungers). It was extremely quiet this time of the year but weather was superb (25-27 C) and would recommend visiting in May (6,000 population. but in August 100,000 on avg stay here). Whether you are a couple, 2 couples, family or a gang over for a golfing trip, this place would be very suitable with everything available. Would suggest bringing the following items: beach towels, hair dryer and soaps. Only a 5-7 minute walk from the beach and village center where everything is available including mini grocery store. A short drive away an InterMarche and Aldi are available for a major grocery shopping. If you are interested in seeing the sites of the Algarve then a car would be necessary however SV do have a car for rent. The staff are very friendly and accommodating and would recommend contacting the office directly when renting , better rates. For those who have not been to the Algarve here are few locations to see: 1. Lagos - great old town for shopping and the promenade is lovely to walk along 2. Monchique - great hike in the forest to see the Cork Oakes -15 km trail for those avid outdoor people 3. Ponta da Piedade near Lagos beautiful scenery of the cliffside and caves that peer down into the ocean, a photographers dream. Great walking paths down to a couple of beached areas and if you walk to the next village there is a great restaurant to refuel on your return back to the car park. Wear good walking shoes not sandles. Boat trips provide another spectacular way to view the seascape. It is no wonder why this is rated #1 on TripAdvisor. 4. Villa Real de Santo Antonio another quaint village with lovely little cafes and shops with a promenade with views of Spain across the water. 5. Castro Marim short drive from Santo Antonio 1.10 entrance fee to see the old castle and fort dated back in 1200. Interesting site and views are great from the top of the walls. There are numerous beach locations to visit including Monte Cleirgo (about a 1 hour drive). Enjoy your stay.

Visiting best friendsApartment looks okay at first side. Check in very efficient. Our room with connecting bathroom very very bad smell of sewer Shower very poor. Don't like two separate beds in the rooms. Swimming pools needs some refurbishment. Wifi works more than fine. Apartment just on 10 minutes walking distance beach and village

Lovely days in the sun!We stayed at Sunset village for a week in may, and the place was lovely. Clean and quiet. Great apartment, with erything you need. A very good shop is 5 mins away by car. Our small kids 1 and 3 years old loved the pool which fits all ages. As many says, the place is approx 10 mins away from beach and town, but that didnt matter at all for us. A short walk down the road to the beach, easy with strollers.

Shame about the buildersOur stay here was marred by the fact we were greeted by builders repairing the pool decking. We weren't given any warning to this work and the only reference to it in an envelope on arrival was to wear footwear round the pool. The work lasted for 6 of our 8 days and was only paused on Sunday and by running out of supplies. The work started around 9 and finished in the evenings, including hammering and electric saws. Although I understand there may sometimes need to be emergency maintenance at a property, the fact that no one in management contacted us, offered us an apology or compensation and has failed to return our messages would warn me off using either this property, or any other that is owned. I believe Vila Vita recently purchased the property who own a larger complex near by. If they didn't care about our stay here, it's possible the same treatment could be given to residents of this complex.
