Lonesome placeIts almost winter, this place was apparently forgotten as there were only a handful of customers using the Onsen and plenty of seats during meal time. This place seems to be infested by ladybugs, the hotel suggested to shut windows in the rooms. And even the dining table had one. The spread at the dining table seem plentiful, however dishes were average. Its quite a pity. Do be careful with sashimi as there was a bone on one of our plates. The facility was clean, however there were messages around requesting to self clean after use, for eg pick up your hair after brushing in the Onsen refreshing areas. Only hair dryer provided at the dresser area, nothing else (for those who frequently visit Onsen, this was pretty under provisioning). Please bring all your lotion, moisturiser, etc. And bring along your own water. This was also not available at this Onsen. Its difficult to rate this place highly. Do look around early for alternatives.

Decent onsen hotel in Oboke areaThe hotel is near Oboke area. We checked it shortly after 5pm. The room is clean with TV, traditional japanese futons and blankets. Some of the rooms have a nice view (if you choose the one facing the river and bridge). Onsen there is decent with outdoor and indoor baths and sauna. Only imperfect part is that our stay came with bento given by hotel, it looks nice but it is cold. Breakfast is delicious though..I would recommend to book stay with dinner provided by hotel rather than bento. Overall me and my friends had a enjoyable stay.

You won't love it or hate itSunriver is a big hotel on the Oboke river. It has 7 floors - top floor is the dining room, on the 5th and 6th are the public onsens. The onsens have an outdoor area for viewing the mountains, but they hate really not so special. The rooms are good sized tatami, though facilities are average. The highlight was the quality of the food for breakfast and dinner.

Right choiceI have looked up almost all hotels in Okobe side and Iya Valley side and consider this one moderately priced with reasonably good review. This has proven a right choice. The hotel is located near a train station and more accessible than most other hotels for those who drive. The river in the Oboke / Koboke is very close to the hotel and the water level is high offering a more lively scene while hotels located near the Iya Valley will only see a river almost completely dry. The onsen provides normal indoor and outdoor pool, a whirlpool, a sauna and a cold water pool, which represents most elements that I would hope for. Food is considered 3 stars not outstanding. One note for other visitors choosing dinner package. Unlike some reviews which mentioned bento only, ours are multi courses dinner. As most half board bookings do not differentiate the two, it is advisable to write to the hotel to clarify after booking to save for disappointment. Email response was reasonably quick.

Nice Onsen HotelThis was our second hotel in Japan and the first Ryokan type with Japanese style rooms, futons to sleep on and Yukata to wear around. Our room was very spatious and had a washing table and private toilet. This was out of our stay the largest room wed had the pleasure of occupying for 2 nights. The hotel has a shuttle service to pick you up from the nearby trainstation but be prepared to ask in Japanese. Transfer takes about 15mins by car or you could walk 1,5h. This area is bus or car and when using the bus be very careful as there are only about 6-8 busses a day depending on where youre going. We had to fall back to using a taxi because of missing the bus once. Make sure to enjoy the hotels onsen with a magnificent view and outdoor bathing! The breakfast buffet is Japanese and extensive. Dinner is also available which we enjoyed twice as there is nothing else really in the area but dont worry the hotel restaurant has excellent and very affordable dinner options.
