  Stayed here for business. Great little pub. Best pub room I have ever stayed in. Good location close to where I needed to be. With the bowling club just around the corner gives you an opportunity to play/ try bowls and have a feed too.

  Short overnight stay

  Very impressed by our stay. Really we were only after a clean family room, and we got exactly that. Would stay there again if I were ever travelling through Newcastle. We had to travel for breakfast but that was no big deal. Parking also not an issue but I guess it depends what time you arrived. We stayed on a Sunday night and didn't hear any noise.

  Great Stay

  Good secure rooms. Security code to gain access to upstairs area and separate entrance where you dont need to go through pub. Rooms clean and functional with flat screen tv, ceiling fan, air con and seat. My curtain didnt work but not a big issue (room 2). Shared kitchen was clean and I made myself an aldi pod coffee with their machine. One pod provided. Shared bathroom/toilets also clean and modern. Pub opens 10am so you leave key in room and let yourself out alternate exit. Small carpark provided but only has a few spaces, I was lucky enough to get the last space! One negative to my stay was the cleaners starting early at 8am where a lot of noise and door slamming was heard. Not a big issue but would expect that service to start after 10am. Overall good stay and would certainly come back.

  Not As Advertised

  While the room appeared clean, the facilities were beyond basic - the advertised coffee making equipment and fridge comprised one bar fridge to service 12 rooms (understandably full upon arrival) and a kettle in the common area - pretty poor in the era of covid, and certainly not what my bag full of refrigerator-requiring groceries was anticipating. The double room contained a basic TV, double bed and two cups with one punnet of milk and one capsule each of coffee and hot chocolate, with three sugar sachets (damp) and three green teabags. Again, whilst clean and basic, everything had the aura of stinginess. The bathroom was nice.

  Great little pub stay

  I have stayed several times at Sunnyside Tavern and also at other affordable places to stay in the Newcastle area. Sunnyside is by far the best value for money. Very clean, hardly any pub noise, friendly staff. Admittedly the one coffee pod/one tiny milk per person is a bit stingy, and if you arrive with groceries that need cooling, you might find the one and only bar fridge for 12 rooms is already full with stuff from others.
